Chapter 28: Diamonds
(Author's Note: I don't owe none of the horror icons or the lyrics of Rihanna's song, "Diamonds". I only owe my characters Ashley Voorhees, Mary and May etc...)I was changed into a pair of ripped faded skinny jeans along with a pair of dark green high top converses and one of Uncle Freddy's red and green sweaters. I borrowed Glen's iPod since I told him I was going for a walk alone and wanted to hear some music. I walked out the front door and was greeted with cool air. I should of taken a hoodie with me. I was about to go back inside and grab one, but I decided that I wasn't going to be long. It was just a short walk up the drive way and back. I wasn't going to go too far because I didn't want my father to worry. Then it occurred to me that I didn't even tell my father that I was going out for a walk. Great, if my dad found that I left without telling him, he was going to be pissed, but why should it matter? I left last night and he didn't notice. He was all to fixed on Mary. Shit, he even didn't say good morning or hi to me when I walked in the dining room for breakfast. He really didn't seem to notice my presence to be exact. I sighed and began to think to myself that it didn't matter. At least my dad was focusing on something positive like Mary for instance instead of worrying about me.
I walked off the porch steps and walked down the drive way and down the trail. I was scanning through Glen's songs and saw that he had some up here that I never heard before. Most of it was hard rock though. I didn't listen to rock that much, not unless it was Nickleback, 3 Doors Down, Bullet for My Valentine or Pink. I was more of a pop, country, hip hop girl. I didn't see much hip hop songs up here though. I saw one song in particular. Kelly Clarkson's song, Catch my Breath. I smiled and pressed play. I cranked up the volume and tucked the iPod in my back pocket. I smiled and began to hum to the song as I walked. I looked everywhere around me. The woods looked the same as they always did. No wild animals ever came around here, well, not the least that I've seen anyway.
As I continued walking, I felt something hit me in my back. I stopped and looked down at what looked like a pinecone. I picked up the pinecone and raised my eyebrow in confusion. Who threw this? Just then, I heard a huff. I looked up in the trees and saw Uncle Jeepers Creepers sitting on a branch. I smiled. I reached my hand into my back pocket and pulled out the iPod and sat it on pause.
"Hey Uncle J.C.", I smiled.
Uncle Jeepers Creepers jumped down and landed directly before me. He began to do sigh language.
'Where are you going?'
"For a walk and back.", I replied. "I need to be alone for a while is all. I need to get away."
Uncle Jeepers Creepers huffed in response. I couldn't tell if that was a good huff or a bad huff. Uncle Jeepers Creepers looked back at the house and then back at me.
"Would you like to walk along with me?", I asked. "I wouldn't mind you coming along."
Uncle Jeepers Creepers began to do sigh language.
'I have a place to show you , if you like to come. It's a place where I usually go to have time for myself.'
I nodded my head with a smile. "Sure, where is it?"
Uncle Jeepers Creepers didn't respond. He lowered himself on the ground and pointed back to his back. He wanted me to get on so I assume we were gonna go flying. I took the head buds out my ears and wrapped them around the iPod securely. I tucked the iPod back in my pocket and got on Uncle Jeepers's Creepers back. Once I was on, I wrapped my arms around his neck and his wingspan expanded. Then, we were off. Uncle Jeepers creepers flew up above the trees and flew west. I shivered as the cool air hit me. I looked down below and saw trees, rocks and also a few animals such as raccoons and deer. I began to wonder where Uncle J.C. was taking me. I hope it was something beautiful, something peaceful, something relaxing.
Fifteen minutes later, Uncle Jeepers Creepers flew straight down to a cliff. Trees were gone and all that there was, was open. Open air, an open way. A way to see what was beyond. Uncle Jeepers Creepers stood on the cliff and slowly, sat me down. I gasped in amazement.
"Oh my gosh!", I shrieked. I was on top of a cliff, standing beside my Uncle and looking out into the ocean. The scene was breathtaking and just so beautiful to look at. I slowly walked to the edge of the cliff and looked down. I gulped. I was probably a hundred feet up and if I was too fall, I would die a painful death, especially if I was to hit one of those rocks from below.
I sighed. "This is so beautiful Uncle J.C.", I smiled. "How did you even find this?"
Uncle Jeepers Creepers turned his back and went to walk over towards a tree. He climbed up it and sat on the branch. He then looked at me and began to do sigh language.
'I usually get bored back at home and since there is nothing to do, I just fly about all over the place. Then I found this and began coming here a lot to think and just relax. It's a wonderful place to think things over and figure out what you have to do.'
I nodded my head, fully understanding what he meant. I turned back to look at the ocean and just smiled. I closed my eyes for a minute and inhaled the fresh air. It was so soothing and comforting to be here and I had to thank Uncle J.C. for taking me here. With Uncle J.C. sitting in his tree, I sat at the edge of the cliff. I was careful not to fall and when I knew I was secure, I took out Glen's IPod and put one of the ear buds in my ear. I forgot that I had it on pause and then suddenly, the song was changed to something I didn't know that was playing. It was Rihanna's song, "Diamonds". I loved this song and was so happy Glen had it up here. I replayed Diamonds back to the beginning and began to sing along.
Shine bright like a diamond.
Shine bright like a diamond.
Find light in the beautiful sea
I choose to be happy
You and I, You and I
We're like diamonds in the sky.
You're a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy....
I stopped singing as I felt a pair of eyes watching me. I turned my head and was face to face with Uncle J.C. I gasped and quickly turned my head from embarrassment.
"Oh um, sorry.", I apologized.
Uncle J.C. huffed and cupped my chin. He made me look at him. I looked him in the eyes and watched as he pointed to his neck. I didn't understand what he did that for. Then he started to do sigh language.
'I didn't know you can sing.', he motioned. 'You have a beautiful voice.'
I felt my cheeks flush red and I quickly looked away. I felt half embarrassed, but yet happy to think about what Uncle J.C. said. Did I have a beautiful voice? Can I sing? I pulled the ear bud out my ear and wrapped the headphones around the iPod.
"I don't think I can sing.", I said, tucking the iPod back in my pocket.
I dangled my legs off the edge and swung them back and forth. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I began to see Uncle J.C. do sigh language.
'How do you know if you never tried? Come on, sing at least one song for me and I'll decide if you can or not.'
I thought for a moment, feeling my face flush again. I was debating on whether to sing or not. If I do decide to sing, what song should I sing and how shall I sing it? Maybe I could finish singing Diamonds since I already started that. Yeah, Diamonds would be perfect because I knew the song by heart and would sing it every time it came on the radio. I let out a long sigh and began....
"Shine bright like a diamond..."
"Shine bright like a diamond..."
I took a long pause before continuing. I wonder if that sounded good so far. I hoped so. I continued to sing until I finished. I didn't hit any high notes, but I did sing a little higher then usual when it came to that point. After I was done singing, I thought to myself that I did sound good, well, in my opinion anyway. I turned to Uncle J.C. for an answer and all he did was stare at me. I felt my stomach go uneasy and it made me think that he didn't like what he heard. Oh, well, I tried.
Just then, I began to hear clapping. I looked over and saw Uncle J.C. clapping his hands together. A smile spread across his face and he then began to do sigh language.
'My dear Ashley, you have a gift I must say; a very beautiful gift.'
