Chapter 26: Nightmare #168
I woken up to the sound of a baby cry. I stirred and turned over on my side. I looked to see I was in my room and the sound of footsteps was heard outside my bedroom. I could hear whoever it was, running down the hallway. Whoever it was, must of ran towards the last room beside Uncle Freddy's; that room was the guest room. I let out a yawn and got out of bed. I was in my SpongeBob PJs and I bent down to slip on a pair of socks. I must of been so tired because I then began to think, how, or where did a baby come from?I walked out of my room and stood in the hallway. I stood still and listened. There was silence, but there was also humming; a beautiful humming sound that sounded so peaceful and comforting. I walked in the direction towards where the voice was coming from. I stopped at the guest room; just as I suspected. The door was closed, but there was someone in there. I pressed my ear against the door and listened. I heard the humming and I also heard the sound of a rocking chair being rocked back and forth.
I softly knocked on the door. Five minutes past and the rocking chair and the humming just continued on. I raised an eyebrow and knocked on the door a little louder. Still, no one came and answered it. I let out a sigh of frustration and placed my hand on the door knob and twisted it. I slowly pushed the door open and looked inside the room. To my surprisement, the guest room was changed. It was changed into a nursery. The walls were painted white and had pink and purple flowers printed in the paint. There was a bookcase in the far corner with stuffed, fluffy animals and a small table for the changing. Then, there was the crib. The crib mobile was on and was spinning around. It had four pink and purple butterflies hanging from it and they were smiling. I raised an eyebrow and scanned the room for the person that was humming and most of all, the baby.
I noticed that there was also no rocking chair in the room. I felt goose bumps crawl over my arms and chills go down my spine.
"Weird.", I whispered to myself.
I walked over towards the door and reached for the door knob. Just as soon as I began to close the door, I heard a baby giggle. I froze. I pushed the door open and looked back inside the room. Still, there was no one there. There was no bathroom in the room that whoever and the baby could hide. Well, there was the closet that stood on the right side of the room beside the changing table. I sighed and gathered up my courage and walked over towards the closet. When I reached for the handle, I stopped and thought to myself that maybe Uncle Boogey was playing a trick. He's the only one that I know that lives in closets and there would be some times where he would play tricks on Glen and me.
"Alright Uncle Boogey.", I spoke. "I know this is another one of your stupid tricks.", I smirked. "Ready or not, here I come."
I quickly turned the knob and swung open the door. I reached my hand inside the closet and pulled on the string that turned on the light. The closet began to lighten at first, but suddenly, the light bulb snapped and the light was gone. I sighed. Light bulb needed to be replaced, but I remember seeing nothing in the closet during those last few seconds of light.
I sighed and shut the door. I turned back around and scanned the room was one. There was no one in here except me. I began to think to myself that maybe I was just hearing things and my mind was playing tricks on me. Then the flashbacks of what happened last night erupted my mind. I quickly pushed those thoughts away to the back of my mind and rushed out of the room. I closed the door and looked down the hallway at all of the closed room. I raised an eyebrow and began to wonder if everyone was still sleeping. I looked up at the window at the top of the ceiling. I saw that it was a blue sky and sunlight was coming in, shining up the room.
I walked down towards my dad's and Mary's room. I knocked on the door. I waited a couple minutes, but there was no answer. I knocked again and still there was no answer. I let out a groan and twisted the door knob. The door was locked. I raised my eyebrow in confusion and looked back at another closed door. It was Glen's. I walked over to it and knocked on it. No answer after a few seconds. I tried opening his door, but it was locked.
I let out a frustrated sigh and kicked the door. "Glen, open the damn door already I know your in there!", I nearly yelled.
Just then, the sound of a baby cry was heard. I gasped and spun around. It sounded like it was right behind me, but there was no one there to be exact. No one, but the baby crying was still heard. I ran to the stair railing and looked down. There was no one standing at the front door or any where else that I could see. The baby's cry seemed to get louder and I suddenly found myself running past the closed doors and down the stairs. I jumped off the last step and ran into the living room and then the dining room.
As soon as I took one step into the dining room, the crying had stopped. I stood still for a moment as I saw my family sitting at the dining room table with their heads down. I raised an eyebrow. They all looked sad and what surprised me was that they were all silent. Something wasn't right. I walked in.
"Um, good morning everyone." I said, walking over towards the right side of the table and taking a seat next to Uncle Pinhead who sat at the head of the table. His head was done as I saw what looked like black tears streaming down his face. I gasped. Uncle Pinhead was crying? I looked over at Aunt Kirsty who was also crying as well. Then I looked at Uncle Michael and his girlfriend May; they were also crying too. Everyone was crying. Then, I suddenly realized that my dad and Mary wasn't here. There chairs were empty and I lifted my head up and turned to Uncle Pinhead.
"Uncle Pinhead?", I asked. "What's wrong? Where's dad and Mary?"
Uncle Pinhead didn't lift his head up to dare to look at me. He just sat there, head down, silently crying. I sighed and stood up from my chair.
"What's wrong with you guys?", I asked almost frustrated.
No one dared answered me. They all just sat there, crying. I swear, this was really weird. My family wasn't the type to cry over nothing. Then it occurred to me that my dad and Mary wasn't here, maybe they were crying because....oh no! Please tell me nothing bad didn't happen to Mary and especially my dad!
I rushed out of the room and ran towards the kitchen. I scanned the room. They weren't in there. I ran towards the next room which was the office/library; still, they weren't there. I searched throughout the whole house including the garage. They were no where to be seen. The van was still parked in the garage and there was no dents or scratches on it so I knew they couldn't of have been in an accident. I let out a frustrated sigh and ran outside. I scanned the yard and ran all over the place, looking for my dad and Mary.
"Daddy!", I called out. "Mary!"
No answer. Just then, I heard the front door open and I looked over to see Uncle Leatherface walking out with a basket. I raised an eyebrow.
"Uncle Leatherface?", I called out.
I didn't expect an answer from him, but at least he could of looked in my direction to let me know that he heard me, like he always does, but he didn't.
He just walked off the front porch steps and started walking towards the right side of the house, towards the woods. I didn't waste anytime and ran off after him. I ran up to his side and asked, "Where you going?"
He didn't reply. He didn't even seem to notice my presence. I reached my hand up to tug on his arm, but my hand went right through him. I gasped. I stopped in place and just looked down at my hand. I looked down at myself, hoping I wasn't invisible. I looked back over towards Uncle Leatherface who was now walking up the bank and disappearing into the woods. I ran after him and followed him into a small meadow in the woods. I been to this meadow only once when I was little. I think that was the time where we just moved here and my dad was training me at the time when he brought me out here. I remember all the purple and white flowers that surrounded the small, little field and how my dad and I would lay back and just talk; talk about anything and everything.
I came to a stopping point and stood beside an old oak tree. My dad and Mary were here in the meadow. Mary was standing up beside my dad, holding what looked like a baby. I got a closer look and saw that it was a baby! It was a baby girl, wrapped in a pink blanket with the initials J.A.V. stitched in the fabric. I stood in front of Mary, who was cradling the baby in her arms and she was also crying like the others did.
"Mary...?", I asked almost in a whisper. I reached my hand out slowly and went to caress the baby's face, but again, my hand just went right through her. I sighed and pulled my hand back. What was I? Invisible? A ghost? What the hell was I?
"Jason, we should get back.", Mary chocked out.
I looked over at my dad who stood beside her. My dad just stood there, shoulders slumped, feet apart. He stood like he would when he went to kill someone, only thing he was missing was the machete. I walked over and stood in front of my dad. I went to reach my hand out to him, but Mary beat me to it. I was taken back, as so was Mary, as my dad snatched his arm away out of reach.
"Just drop the basket and let me be.", my dad spoken coldly.
I raised my eyebrow in confusion. This would probably be the first time I seen my dad act that way towards Mary. With that said, the baby started crying and Mary let out a sigh and slowly left. Uncle Leatherface dropped the basket and walked back to the house with Mary. Now, it was just my dad and I.
I slowly took a few steps back and tripped over something and fell. I let out a yelp and landed hard on my back. I let out a groan and looked up to see something dark on me, or should I say through me? I let out a gasp, as there laying through my chest was a tombstone. I quickly pulled myself up and backed away. My dad on the other hand, let out a long sigh and dropped down on his knees.
"Why did you have to go Ashley? Why?", my dad began to sob.
I raised my eyebrow again in confusion. What the hell was he talking about. He reached his hand out and rubbed the ground before the tombstone. I walked over to my dad's side and looked down. The tombstone said: ASHLEY VOORHEES, 1995-2013, Daughter of Roger and Sue Tompkins; Adopted daughter of Jason and Mary Voorhees.
I read the words on the tombstone over and over, hoping that this was a joke. The sound of my dad's crying brought me out of my thought and he had his head bowed down on the ground and started punching the ground.
"Damn't it Ashley!", My dad cursed. "Please come back! Please! I promise to make everything right! I promise sweet heart! I promise! I'm sorry I was such a horrible father to you! Please sweetie, come back to me."
My dad cried harder and I felt bad. I wish there was some way I could reach him and just comfort him. I hate to see my dad like this, but there was no way I could comfort him. I let out sigh and took a seat next to my dad. I looked back over at the tombstone and re-read the Daughter of Roger and Sue Tompkins part. I didn't actually quite get that. I knew I was adopted and all, but how did my dad or anyone else knew about my real parents? My dad told me that they were either dead or they just left me out in the woods to die. Another thing I didn't get is, if I'm right here, was I ghost? If so, how did I die? And why was my dad apologizing? What did he do? Was he the cause of my death? Or was it somebody else that was the cause of it?
I must of been really deep in thought because now, my dad's crying had stop and there was just now silence. I turned to my side and saw that my dad was gone. I quickly scanned around and there was no sign of him.
"Ashley?", called a voice. I quickly spun around and saw a masked man standing before me. He was six foot, he wore black baggy clothes and his mask was what freaked me out the most. His lips were stitched together and he had no eyes. Blood was streaming out from his eye sockets as if he was crying. He reached out his hand to me, but I slapped it away.
"Stay the hell away from me whoever you are!", I yelled. "Who are you and where's my father?"
He pressed his hand to his chest and chuckled. "You mean that Jason fellow? Oh come now dear, he ain't your real father."
"He's the closet thing I had to a father." I snapped. I slowly stood on my feet. "Now, you tell me where he is or else, I will-"
"You'll do what?", the man cut me off. "Kill me?"
He let out another laugh and shook his head in disbelief. "Oh come on child, you should know better than that."
"Mind me ask, what the hell happened to me?", I asked, pointing at the tombstone with my name carved in it.
The man looked down at the tombstone and then looked back up at me. His stitched lips curved in a smile and then he spoke, "I cannot tell you that Ashley because it hasn't happened yet."
I raised an eyebrow. "What the hell do you mean? Of course it happened!", I snapped. "Didn't you see my family crying! Don't you see this tombstone right here!"
The man chuckled and shook his head again. "Yes child, I see it, but this isn't really happening...yet.", he replied the last part with a smirk.
"What do you mean?"
"You see.", the man sighed. "This right here, this is a dream. Your the one that is dreaming it and controlling it. Your the one that's letting this happen."
I froze. I'm dreaming? Am I dreaming? Shouldn't I be waking up yet?
Just then, the man's face was inches away from mine. Our felt our bodies almost touching and I could feel his hot breath tickle my face. I gulped, hoping he wasn't going to try something, but instead, he pushed me and I fell backwards. I was waiting for my back to hit the hard ground again, but this time, I fell downwards into a hole. I landed back on something soft and saw myself inside of what looked like a coffin. I gasped and then something hit me. Dirt.
I looked up and saw the masked man looking down at me. He had a shovel in his hand and he was throwing dirt on me. I screamed and clawed at the sides of the dirt wall. I wanted out and I was trying to get out, but it was no use; the hole was very deep and there was no way I could stand up and trying reaching and pulling myself out of here. More dirt flew on me and I continued screaming.
"This is your dream Ashley!", the masked me yelled down at me. "Your in control of it! Why don't you dream yourself somewhere else ha ha!", he laughed.
I continued screaming and crying, not really caring about what he said. I was hoping my dad, Uncle Leatherface of somebody to come to my rescue and kill that masked man, but I knew that was a doubt. If someone didn't hear me from earlier, what makes me think that they could hear me now.
Suddenly, dirt covered my whole body except for my head. Tears were streaming down my face and I looked up to see the masked man. I heard him drop the shovel and reach over to pick up something new. It was a lid, a lid to my coffin.
"By the way, when you get to hell, tell them that Stitch sent ya!", the masked man yelled, before throwing down my lid.
