Saved by Darcy
Just as I got to the gates, Darcy pulled up to the front of the school. He parked and got out of his car. I ran over to him and hugged him. He put his hand on the back of my head and then moved it down to my neck. I pulled away. His hands had touched my wounds. I gasped and bent down. It hurt a lot more than my leg did after the floor shattering evening at Rage. This time it was not only pain, but the memory. I thought I was going to black out. I started shivering even though I wasn’t cold. Darcy knelt down beside me and put his arm around me.“Come on. Let’s go somewhere” he said, helping me into his car.
“I just have to be back by 5, ok?”
“Ok.”
We drove along the busy roads with the radio turned up as loud as possible. I was so thankful that Darcy could tell I wasn’t ready to talk. With the music flowing through my ears I could almost block everything out. Apart from Darcy’s singing of course.
“Say something I’m giving up on you.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t get to you.” I could tell he was trying to sing in the most ridiculous voice. It worked. He made me laugh. Then we both joined in for the chorus. He pulled up to the recreation park. It had green grass and trees with beautiful flowers. A lake right in the middle that people were canoeing in. As he parked the car I undid my seat belt and twisted myself over the console so my head was in his lap. He stroked my neck. Up and down the marks that Jarrod had left but he wasn’t smiling. He looked angry.
“This was Jarrod wasn’t it?” His voiced sounded distressed and hurt.
“Yes” I said. I was planning to down play it but then the words just slipped out of my mouth.
“He almost killed me!”
“No. You don’t deserve this at all. Why wasn’t I there?” he said with guilt.
“You saved my life Darcy.”
“How? I wasn’t even there” said Darcy.
“He could have insulted me all he wanted. I have no self-respect. I don’t care if I’m dead or alive. But when he started saying things about you I kind of turned into a monster. I’ve never seen myself like that before and it scared me. That’s why I didn’t want to tell you. I didn’t want to hurt you.” I quickly wiped my tear away before Darcy could see it.
“Urgh! That was so wrong of me to block you out. I didn’t answer your calls. What was I thinking?”
Darcy pushed my head off his lap as gently as possible and got out of the car. He paced up and down the car angrily.
