Tears of shame
I called Darcy back. Tears streamed down my face. He didn’t pick up. I started to sob. Saying goodbye to Drew had been harder than I had thought it was going to be. I knew it was the right thing to do. I had to concentrate on what mattered. Darcy. My blossoming relationship with him. Drew would only be a distraction from the boy I was falling for. My phone went off. I accepted the call and heard Darcy’s warm, soothing voice on the other end. I tried to stop crying. Darcy didn’t need to know about any of this.“Hey baby girl, what’s wrong?”
Baby girl! I had to smile through the tears after he said that.
“You told me to ring you” I tried to continue with the sentence but my harsh sobs won the battle with my mouth.
“Yeah. You said you would call me back.”
“No. I mean yes you did but when you gave me your number you said” I tried to keep going but it was no use.
“I said call me if you need to and if that Jarrod guy ever lays another hand on you.”
“I called you because I need you. I need you Darcy.” I couldn’t hold it back anymore. I was crying like a baby down the phone. I felt bad but the tears wouldn’t stop.
“Where are you?” he asked.
“At my school.”
“I’ll be there as soon as I can, ok? Wait for me at the gates” said Darcy.
“How do you know where it is?”
“It’s the same one Laura goes to right?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
“I was with Ryan when he picked her up after school. He left the address in the car.”
“Wait! Ryan picked up Laura!”
“Yes, hold on. I’m coming. Meet me at the gates ok?”
“Ok” I said and hung up.
Laura said that she had gone to a drama meeting. Surely she wouldn’t have lied. Maybe she thought that I wouldn’t have approved but that didn’t make any sense as I had no say in the matter. I just hoped she wasn’t repeating the events of her and Gabe.
