Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Normal POVIt seems like forever since the five had seen anyone. A glimmer of hope arose and they clung to it with their cheering and celebration. They ran ahead praying that it would be like this to the end. It wasn't. They ran into Negro. The demon hedgehog seems a little shocked seeing them, glancing at the drawings in poison, he frowns.
“Mobians,” is all he says before they feel their hearts being pulled out of their bodies.
They’re back in the town's inn.
“We need to hurry,” Jackie says, “If we hurry, we can get past him.” Sapphire hums. “Sapphire!” She pushes herself up to sitting position. “Sapphire…you want to get out, right?” Jackie asks. Sapphire hesitates, but nods. Surge is still there in his sentry station, chin in hand and looking as bored as he’s looked like since they’ve first seen him. He says the same things, and Sapphire thanks him again. This time Surge just laughs.
They didn't make it. Once again they run into Negro and he kills them again. Sapphire shoots up and feels the back of her head for any injury and of course there are none. Yet she feels something wet and slimy.
"I'm practically covered in these drawings" Maria moans. Sapphire takes her hand back and sees black poison.
"Same, and to think it's poison too.." Crimson trails off as she sees Sapphire. "Your dripping with it" she mutters. The others send her a look if worry but Sapphire waves it off.
"It's fine" she wipes the liquid on her dress "let's just keep going"
When they reach Surge’s sentry station, Sapphire speaks first.
“How long does it take for Negro to come back to the town?” Surge looks at her questioningly and the others are the same.
“He should be in quite far right now,” Surge starts, “Depending on what he’s thinking, he makes rounds in a few hours. Never goes into town unless he needs it though.”
“For what?” Sapphire tilts her head to the side.
“Sleep,” Surge says, “Food. Though, don't see why as he hates the pub” Sapphire frowns in confusion. Surge leans back a bit. “Wait,” he squints at her “You all never went to the pub?” Sapphire shakes their head. Calista nudges her.
“Sapph, what are you doing? We’ll get caught by Negro at this rate.”
“It’s okay,” she whispers back.
“You stayed in town for a while and you didn’t go to the pub?” Surge actually looks offended, “Breakfast?” Sapphire shakes their head again. “Jeez,” Surge hops off his seat and then steps out of the station, “You plannin’ on starving yourself out here, darlin'?”
“We didn't have time,” Sapphire says, gesturing to the path, “We had to go.” He throws the path a look that flashes into a sneer before facing the girl again, expression casual.
“Come on,” he says, walking towards the group, “We’re going to the pub.” Surge reaches down to take Sapphire's hand, and the moment they touch, Sapphire draws back immediately, eyes wide. They focus on Surges’ hand. There’s nothing there. He’s not holding anything. Nothing that was going to kill them. Surge raises a eyebrow again. Sapphire swallows and closes her eyes. She nods and falls in step beside Surge as they head to the pub, the others follow a little closer to the two then before. Sapphire and Surge keep looking forward refusing to look at eachother for a while. And they don't touch hands.
