The Dance

Chapter 24

Lexi's POV

We raced outside, only to find Avery and Aaron dancing outside in the courtyard, swaying to inexistent music.

We stood and watched. It was quite beautiful.

Still watching, Ski slipped back into the gym to DJ.

Ian's POV

We finished the last song, trying to keep the dance going. Then, Cliff turned on the playlist and we left the stage.

The slow song began, and Libby looked at me sympathetically, and offered me her hand. Quietly, in her wispy voice, she said, "Aaron will figure it out. You know he will."

Tentatively, I took her hand, and twirled her around. Hands clammy with sweat, I put my arms around her waist and whispered, "I love you, Libby Collins." She rewarded me with a smile.

Cliff's POV

I started blushing when the slow song came on, causing Sarah to laugh, causing me to blush even more.

Almost to the point of hysterics, Sarah grabbed me by the hand and we started to do a weird chicken dance-moonwalk-random dance-dance as everyone else slow danced.

It was amazing.

Avery's POV

We swayed in the courtyard, the moonlight our spotlight. My head lay on his shoulder, my hands around his neck.

Then, he shrugged my head off his shoulder, leaning in.

For the first few seconds, I did nothing but stare stupidly, but I finally came out of my trance, and leaned in.

It wasn't perfect, far from it actually. Our teeth clanked together multiple times, and our hands were in awkward positions.

But the moment our lips touched blew all that away. Aaron's lips were soft, almost delicate, the most wonderful thing I could ever feel. Pure happiness flowed through my veins, and is we drew away, I could feel nothing but joy.

"Do you want to play some Band Hero?" I whispered.

Aaron grinned back at me.
