I finally decided to get my food and then decide where to sit. I went up to the salad bar thingy, its probably still called a salad bar even though there was hardy any salads. I decided on a fruit cup, mashed potatoes with gravy, some chicken salad and a bottle of water. I was to lazy to count exactly, but I estimated about $7.00, which was in fact all I had with me. I went held up my tray to Mrs. Botner, who tapped something into her computer.
"That's $7.75 sweetheart," she croaked and held out her hand. I bit my lip.
"I, uh, only have seven dollars..." People started prodding my back, willing me to hurry up. Mrs. Botner eyed me.
"You're the new one, eh?" I awkwardly smiled.
"Uh, yah I'm... I was the one with Candy this morning." Mrs. Botner smiled gently.
"Tell you what," she said in a low voice. "I'll let you off the hook this time, okay?" I breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you!" Mrs. Botner smiled again.
"Now move along! Next!"

I started walking away, but then realized I had no where to go. At last I spotted an empty table and went over to it. I sat down and started slowly chewing the salad. I noticed a girl walking over to my table. Well, no, not MY table, but the table I was sitting at. She had her nose in a book and didn't even notice me as she sat down. We spent a few awkward moments together, until I decided to start a conversation.

"So, uh, what book are you reading?" She looked up at me with a startled expression, then lifted the cover of the book. It was Bluestar's Prophecy, a super-edition from the Warriors series. I remembered reading it in middle school.
"Oh cool! I love that book!" She slowly looked up at me.
"You do?" she asked. I nodded. We ended up talking about Warriors for the next 10 minutes. It turns out shes re-reading the series, even though she likes dogs better than cats. Finally, we realized we hadn't even introduced ourselves.
"My name's Tracy," she said. I smiled.
"I'm Heather."
