Ellington High
(This is Heather)My name is Heather Feldman, 16 years old, and today I am starting the third year of high school.
I watched the white building through the car window. A fountain stood in front of the enormous glass doors, covering the small flowers near it with a thin mist. Above the door were huge purple letters that spelled "Ellington High School." This would be my school for the next two years.
I parked my mini-cooper in the crowded parking lot, squeezing in between a blue Prius and a pick-up truck.
"How am i going to get out later?" I thought, jangling my keys in my hand. I had just gotten my driver's license, so I wasn't that good of a driver yet. I sighed and decided I would worry about it later. I dropped the keys in my bag and opened the trunk. Picking up my books, I put them down on the blacktop, then closed the trunk and locked the car. I bent down to grab her books, and shoved a couple into my bag. The rest didn't fit, so I decided to carry them. I walked down the cement path, around the fountain and up to glass doors. I squinted, trying to see my reflection. I smoothed out a few stray hairs, but immediately straightened, seeing two girls walking towards me. I smiled awkwardly and mumbled,
"Hi..." She girls walked straight past me.
"And then she said to him..." Their voices faded as the glass door shut behind them. I let out an exasperated sigh. I had moved here from Georgia a week ago, and so far I hadn't made any friends. I was hoping that when I started school that would change, but so far it doesn't look like it.
I opened the glass door and immediately collided with a girl with her head down. She looked up at me, but her head was still down.
"I'm... I'm sorry..." she mumbled. I forced a smile onto my face, but inside I was having a mini heart attack: the girl was dressed in all black, with spiked boots and a long skirt, a blue streak in her spiky hair, and huge, bulky headgear crudely sticking out of her head.
"My name is Heather! What's yours?" I asked with a forced cheeriness. I thought that I should make friends with as many people as I possibly could, but as I looked around I noticed a few people snickering.
"Maybe this wasn't a good idea..." I thought. But then again, I couldn't just walk away now. The girl looked up at me with a confused expression. She looked around, but the only people that were near by were behind me. I decided to just keep smiling like an idiot.
"Me?" she asked. I nodded, still smiling.
"Are you sure?" she repeated. My smile faded into a frown. Did she think I was an idiot?
"Of course I'm sure! Do you think I don't know who I want to talk to?" She quickly looked away.
"No no, it's not that, it's just... never mind. My name is Coraline Blu." she mumbled. I stretched out my hand, expecting a handshake, but Coraline was looking away. I drew back my hand awkwardly. Suddenly a bunch of people started pushing us from behind, and I stumbled forward.
"Get a move on!" someone shouted. A tidal wave of teens poured out through the doors, pushing me towards the glass door and sweeping Coraline outside. I couldn't see her anymore, but i yelled bye anyway.
