The Crush (Chapter 17)
Cinderleaf sighed as she sorted through the herb stash, still broken inside from the incident with Friskpaw. She liked the fact that he was honest, but she wanted to know why they didn't tell her.He could've just told me he never liked me instead of lying to my face for all that time, Cinderleaf thought as she tossed dried up herbs to the side. She got up and padded out of the Medicine den and into the forest to gather some more cobwebs. When she had finally reached the forest clearing, she heard a strange voice behind her.
"Heya Cinderleaf. How've you been?" A glitchy sounding voice asked. Cinderleaf looked around, confused. 'Who had spoken?' Suddenly a huge cat appeared in front of Cinderleaf, which frightened her. Then she identified the cat as Maplelight, a resident of the Dark Forest. Starclan had warned Cinderleaf about Maplelight many times before. Cinderleaf began backing away from the dangerous spirit. She was a bit scared, the memories of StarClan cats telling her what Maplelight could do fresh in her mind.
"H-how do you know my name?" Cinderleaf asked the faded Dark Forest she-cat. Her fur and eyes had a red-ish tint to them. "Darling, I know everyone here." Maplelight giggled eerily. Cinderleaf picked up the crunch of footsteps and the murmurs of voices approaching them. Maplelight vanished almost instantly, leaving Cinderleaf alone in the clearing.
Cinderleaf turned to see who was approaching. It was Owlfang. He was a few moons older than Cinderleaf. Owlfang and Cinderleaf had been friends since they were kits. He had a slight crush on her, but he didn't show it. He gave subtle hints though.
"Oh, hey Cinderleaf!" Owlfang smiled at her. "Hi Owlfang." Cindertuft said, returning his smile. "How have you been?"
"I've been good. What about you?" Owlfang asked. Cinderleaf shrugged. They both talked until it got late. When they noticed that it was dark, they were quite surprised. They both started to laugh.
"Wow. We stayed here talking until this late?" Cinderleaf said with a small giggle. "I guess so!" Owlfang smiled. 'I could talk to her forever...' Owlfang thought. He really did like love Cinderleaf. He knew that she was a Medicine cat and they couldn't have mates, but he didn't care. He loved the small, gray, fluffy she-cat.
The two young cats then walked back to camp or limped on Cinderleaf's part. Owlfang escorted Cinderleaf to the Med Den. Cinderleaf smiled at him and thanked him for bringing her back to the camp. She licked his ear respectively and padded into the Med Den. Owlfang blushed a small bit under his fur. He then looked at her lovingly. He saw that Cinderleaf was carefully settling down in her nest, careful to not hurt her injured leg anymore than what it already was.
'I love her. I always have, but I just don't think she ever noticed.' Owlfang thought as he quietly sighed and padded to the Warrior's Den. He quietly made his way to his nest, careful to not step on any sleeping cat's tail. He settled down in his nest, sighing.
'I just wish she would notice my love for her...' He thought as he slowly fell asleep. He dreamed about him and Cinderleaf. Together. He just wished it was real.
