Summer Camp Story

It's Lilli!

"Spider!" Lilli shrieked as she leaped onto of the toilet seat in the bathroom. "Big hairy spider!" Blaze raced into the bathroom with a clipboard containing a think wad of paperwork at her chest.
"Where is it?" She asked dashing into the bathroom and scanning the floor. "Look out, it might be poisonous" Amy and Wave raced into the bathroom after Blaze, nearly wedging themselves in the doorway.
"What's wrong?" Amy asked.
"Spider!" Lilli jabbed her finger at the shower stall, she could have sworn it grew since she last spotted it. "Eek! There!"
"Oh for gods sake!" Wave snorted. She made her way over to the stall and squatted. "That little speck?"
"It's a wicked scary speck!" Lilli insisted. "It might be a black widow!"
"It'll be a dead black widow soon enough" Wave started to pull of her shoe to squish it with until Blaze shooed her away.
"No, Wave. It's not a black widow, it's a common house spider. I'll take it outside" Blaze held the clip board against her chest with her forearms and scoops the spider up in her left palm. Lilli was horrified.
"Just take it away!" She begged. The door of the cabin slammed open and a stampede of footsteps thundered into the bunk.
"What's the matter? What's wrong? Who screamed?" voices called. Lilli recognised them to be Maria, Sapphire, Jackie, Victoria, Electra, Yamilette and Trinty. With a joyful yelp she leaped of the toilet seat and galloped past Blaze, Amy and Wave.
"Hi!" She cried, dancing into a big group hug.
"Lilli, what's the matter? Who screamed?" Maria demanded craning her neck to the bathroom.
"Me! There was this massive huge spider!" Lilli motioned towards the bathroom.
"It was a tiny little spider" Wave snapped as she and Amy came out of the bathroom as well. Wave shook her head in disgust. Amy just let her eyes trail to the floor.
"Coming through" Blaze swerved around the crowd of girls. Her hands were cupped together and she had to open the door with her hip to go outside.
"She's carrying the spider, with her bare hands!" Lilli whispered. Yamilette looked impressed.
"Wow, cool, nature woman"
"More like crazy woman" Lilli scrunched up her face. "Yuck"
"Your such a baby" Wave butts in. She then walks as far as she could from the group of friends before turning and looking expectantly at Amy. She raises a brow and crosses her arms to show she's becoming impatient. Amy stayed where she was for a moment to decide before joining Wave at the other side of the room but she was still gluing her eyes to the floor.
"So, when did you get here?" Jackie asked Lilli trying to avoid the awkwardness that hung in the room. "We didn't see you get here" Lilli smiles and puts her hands in her pockets. "I got drove down instead of taking the bus, I would have waited with you guys in the parking lot but Blaze said you'd all be here soon"
"Well she was right, and we was quicker because we heard you screaming" Yamilette said. Lilli laughed.
"Well, now I know how you make you guys hustle!" Yamilette smiled and her eyes scanned the room and her smile flickered as her eyes land on Amy and Wave.
"We are all here now except Red" Yamilette noted. "Have you guys seen her?" Lilli shook her head while Amy and Wave didn't react at all.
"I hope everything's okay"  Yamilette muttered. Wave whispered something to Amy glancing at Lilli who slumped when she saw. Electra caught Lilli's eyes and just smiled sadly. Feeling the awkwardness rising once again Sapphire jumped in.
"What about Scrouge, Electra? Have you seen him yet?" She asked fluttering her eyelashes innocently. Electra playfully glared at her before shrugging.
"I guess he's not here yet." Blaze came back into the cabin and washed her hands.
"Crisis averted, the spider has been returned to the wild" It sounded like a joke, but she didn't smile. Blaze studied her clipboard as all the girls around her shuffled. There was a vibe around her they couldn't quite figure out. "One missing, Red, was it?"
"Correct" Jackie confirmed as Blaze wrote something on her board. She looks up to the girls and gives a small smile.
"I'm Blaze the cat, this is my first year here at Green Lake Camp" The girls crowded around expect for Wave and Amy. Amy had tried to step forward but Wave stared daggers at her making her stay where she was.
"So this is your first year as camp counsellor?" Jackie asked.
"Yes" Blaze said. "Amy, here, was happy to show me the ropes" She was trying to involve Amy. The pink hedgehog just shrugs as if it wasn't a big deal. Wave frowned at Amy.
"You didn't tell me that"
"I don't have to tell you everything" Amy shot back making everyone raise their eyebrows. A red hue spread across Waves face and you could practically see the smoke come out of her ears.
"So, ugh, where's our CIT?" Maria asked.
"Rouge went to the office to let them know Lilli arrived, you probably just missed each other. Hm, I know you have all bunked together before so I'll let my get-to-know-you game slide" Blaze says a small smile still tugging at her lips.
"Is that the one where everyone gets candy?" Electra asked hopefully "because I think we all need to catch up!" Everyone giggled except for Amy and Wave who rolled their eyes.
"We don't need to catch up Electra, we emailed and texted everyone"
"Almost everyone" Amy whispered to herself. Another silence.
"I'm going to start unpacking" Victoria says reaching down for her bag.
"Speaking of which, didn't you leave your bag outside Sapph? You might want to get it before the raccoons get it first" Sapphire laughs nervously.
"That's a joke right?" She asked worriedly. "I mean, they won't start going through my stuff right?"
"Not unless they can get your case unzipped" Maria grinned at her expression. "Just teasing"
"Who is up for a moonlight hike later?" Blaze asks her head popping up from behind her clipboard.
"But my cupcakes!" Electra moaned.
"The choc chip and strawberry ones? I've been dreaming about them!" Lilli cried. "They're to die for!"
"To die for? Touch wood" Sapphire said tapping her fingers on a bunk bed. "About the hike and well, dying, erm, are you sure it's safe to walk out in the dark?"
"Of course I'm sure, why wouldn't it be safe?" Blaze asks not taking her eyes off her clipboard.
"Did no one tell you about Cropsy?" Sapphire took a deep breath. "About the anniversary?"
"No" Blaze puts down her clipboard so it rests on her lap. "But maybe you should"
"He's this psycho guy" Sapphire began. "He stalks campers. Every six years-" There was whooping and laughter outside. A lot of it.
"That's Negro.." Lilli said suspiciously. She went outside.
"NEGRO!" She bellowed. "YOU DORK! PUT THAT DOWN!" She ducked her head back into the cabin. "Sapph! They got into your suitcase! They have your bikini top!"
"They WHAT" Sapphire shouts. Electra, Sapphire, Maria, Victoria and Yamilette burst out of the cabin.
"NEGRO! Give that back or I'll strangle you with it!" Sapphire yells. The other girls start squealing and whooping. Maybe camp won't be that bad after all.
