Summer Camp Story

Cabin Screams

Stricken, Maria ran across the parking lot after Amy, then stopped and flopped her arms down at her sides. She should probably wait until Amy cools down before she tries to apologise. Behind her Jackie sighed.
"Talk about lousy timing"
"I'm sorry you guys" Maria turned and faced the group. "I should have just kept my mouth shut"
"Me too" Electra lowered her head.
"Me three" Trinty folds her arms as she frowns.
"You didn't say anything at all" Maria reminded Trinty.
"But I was about to!" Yamilette raised her hand.
"Me four. Only my love of the dramatic pause stopped me in time"
"Got to love the dramatic pause" Maria looked over her shoulder to Amy who was a speck in the distance. "We will have to make it up to her. We can't start off the summer like this"
"If she wants top bunk, let her have one?" Trinty ventured.
"Everyone's mood can be changed with a little sugar!" Electra announced her smile brightening her features. "My mum sent two dozen of her killer chocolate chip and strawberry cupcakes" Yamilette groaned but this time with delight.
"Your mum is a goddess!" Jackie smiled like the other girls but she knew she couldn't have as many as the other girls. She wasn't feeling her best before she came and she knew it was down to her sugar intake before so she had to watch what she was eating.
"What about Wave?" Trinty asked. "Do you think Amy will tell her what we said?"
"I hope not" Maria shook her head. She didn't want to imagine a summer feuding with Amy and Wave. The crowds were beginning to thin as the campers headed for their bunks.
"Guys, we have to check in with our counsellor" Sapphire said reaching for the handle on her suitcase.
"She's at the bunk, we will lead the way" Electra announced gesturing for everyone to follow her. "We are up the hill this year"
"I hope we aren't in trouble with Blaze" Trinty mumbled. "That's our counsellors name"
"About Blaze" Jackie smoothed her hair. "She's a little...never mind, it might just be me"
"It's not just you" Yamilette said. "In a word? She's freaky"
"Freaky? How?" Sapphire asked.
"She's intense, or should I say, tense?" Yamilette shrugs
"Tense works for me" Electra nods.
"Maybe it's because she's new?" Victoria suggests.
"Yeah, she's new, she must be from somewhere with not a lot of sun because she's as white as a ghost. Well, she's pale purple but still!" Yamilette said.
"Ghostly" Trinty said.
"Maybe she is a ghost!" Sapphire cackled.
"Speaking of ghosts and changing the subject, Sapphire has a spooky ghost story to tell" Maria announced with a smile. She knew Sapphire was dying to tell it.
"Ohhh! Very spooky?" Trinty hums.
"Not just spooky, horrifying! And it's not just a story either, it's true! I'll tell it tonight to scare the wits out of everyone!"
"No way!" Yamilette cried. "I'm still having nightmares from last years spooky stories!"
"Me too" Trinty's lower lip quivered.
"It's fun to be scared" Electra insisted. "And and I watch horror movies all the time!" That made Jackie smile.
"Then tonight is your lucky night" Sapphire promised as she winked at Yamilette and Trinty. "I'll tell it when you two are asleep then" Yamilette pulled a face.
"Maybe I'll weaken and and listen to every gory detail you have to offer" Maria was no longer listening and was focused in the hill.
"I wish we didn't have to face Amy again so soon"
"Well, the cookout is in under a hour" Jackie pointed out. "We can try to make up there?" Everyone nods in agreement as Sapphire slaps a bug on her arm.
"Demon bug! Be gone!"
"Is Sonic here yet?" Jackie asked Yamilette.
"No, not yet" She answered. "And Lilli isn't here yet either. I think they're coming in together"
"Red has yet to show too" Jackie said. Silence.
"Hey, what if Amy told Blaze on us?" Trinty said not caring she was making it obvious she was worried.
"This summer is already a bummer" Electra sighs.
"Come on guys!" Sapphire popped up out of no where. "Let's hit reset! Let's promise one another that this will be the best summer yet. We have a great bunk and we can still have lots of fun right?" She put her hand out. "Who's with me?" Remembering their cheer for the sports events the girls giggle and put their hands on hers.
"Goooo GREEN LAKE CAMP!" They throw their arms up in the air with a fit of giggles. Then a blood curdling scream echoed around them.
"What was that?" Victoria asked. A second scream. It was coming from their cabin.
"Come on guys!" Maria shouted. She broke into a run, Sapphire, not being able to run with her suitcase set it down and jetted to catch up. Soon everyone was running forward as a third screamed blasted from the top of the hill.
