Chapter 7

Jack and Sally nervously looked to each other, then at you, then in different directions.

"I think," Jack cleared his throat, "that it would be best if you regained some of your memories before knowing such information."

Wiping some tears away from your cheeks, you nod slowly and look to the ground. It was the best decision, after all you already have learned so much, adding more just seemed to be too overwhelming.

"I-I understand."

Jack smiled sadly and looked to Sally, nodding to her and Sally returning the gesture.

"(Y/N), I think you should have some rest. After all, you had a very busy day with getting to know the town and all." Sally softly tells you, patting your shoulder comfortingly.

You smile at the gesture, but quickly grow worried at the thought of where you would stay.

"Oh, yeah, you're right, but... Where would I stay? I just arrived and I don't have a home..." You frown at the ground in thought. Maybe they have some kind of hotel..?

Jack chuckles, catching your attention bringing your gaze from the ground to his skull, and begins to take your hand and lead you somewhere.

"You can stay with me until the mayor builds a house for you. Every newcomer gets one specifically to their liking. He should come over to my house tomorrow to iron out the details."

"O-oh. Alright then." You turn your head back to Sally and wave goodbye, her returning the wave with a smile, before turning back to Jack to ask, "Where do you live, by the way?"

Jack points to a house at the top of steep staircase, and you awe at the sight. It seemed so cool and mysterious, standing tall and alone.

"Do you live there by yourself?" You were curious of Jack and his lifestyle, especially since he and Sally seemed to know so much of yours.

Jack nods, his face seeming to flash a certain emotion you weren't quite able to understand, but before you could analyze further it was gone and he was smiling wide.

"Well, not completely alone. I have a dog named Zero whole lives with me. He's the sweetest little thing and loyal to a fault. He's my best friend, aside from Sally of course."

You couldn't help a grin spreading across your face as you listen to Jack talk about Zero so sweetly. You couldn't wait to meet him.

"Well, I'm glad you aren't completely alone up there, it seems awfully solitary up there on that hill."

Jack nods, but squeezes your hand a bit and replies, "Well, now I've gotten a bit more company to make the space a bit more lively."

You blush and squeeze your hand back, your heart fluttering a bit from the he was looking at you, features soft and his grin a little dopey, it was cute.

Soon you two were at his front door, you didn't even realize until he was pulling out his keys. When you were with Jack, it was like he was all you could focus on, and everything else around you just faded away. But surprisingly, you didn't mind. It was nice, Jack was nice, you didn't really know how to describe it.

Jack opens the door and leads you to his couch, sitting you down on it before turning to his staircase and cupping his mouth with his hands.

"Zero! I'm home!"

It was silent for a moment, but then, faintly, you hear the sound of a dog barking. It gets louder and louder, and suddenly you see a white blur blast down the stairs and into Jacks waiting arms, barking happily and licking the skeletons face in uncontainable excitement.

Jacks laughter soon joins the barking.

"Haha! Alright Zero alright! I missed you too boy, haha! But there's someone I'd like you to meet."

He sets the ghostly dog down and points towards you, "Zero, I'd like you to meet (Y/N)."

The dog instantly flies onto your lap, giving your face licks too and happy nuzzles on the cheek. You giggle at the affection and happily pet his back, almost overwhelmed by the cute little dog.

"Well it's nice to meet you too Zero! You're so cute, and soft!" It was weird, Zero was a ghost dog, yet when you pet him he feels solid under your touch, and the feeling of short fur tickles your fingers when you comb your hand through it.

"Yes, he's very affectionate, almost a little too affectionate at times, huh boy?" Jack says as he sits next to you, patting Zero on the head a little. Zero barks happily and finally stops licking your face to cuddle up on your lap, his head lying on one arm as your other hand continues to pet him.

"So Jack, what are we going to do tomorrow?" You ask.

Jack hums a little in thought, stroking his chin, "Well, we'll need to head to a tailor to fix your dress, and possibly get you a new outfit." He gestures to your tattered dress, and you nod in agreement.

"Then at noon we'll meet up with the mayor to discuss your new house," he turns your head to you with a smile, "then after that we can do whatever you like."

You smile back and nod, "Sounds like a wonderful day, I can't wait." You yawn a bit as you scratch behind one of Zero's ears, causing him to lick your arm a bit.

"You must be tired (Y/N), here, I'll show you your room." Jack stands up and helps you up as well, and you follow him, Zero still in your arms.

You two walk up the stairs and down a hallway, then turn into a room that was decorated with a simple bed, night stand, and round fuzzy carpet. There was a very large window with a seat overlooking Halloween Town and a closet on the opposite side of your bed with nothing in it but a simple night gown.

"I use this room for guests usually when people visit, but it should be cozy enough for you. There's a nightgown in the closet that should fit you, but if not I can ask Sally to bring one."

You set Zero down and walk to the closet, holding the nightgown to your frame and deciding it should fit, "No, this is fine. Thank you so much for your hospitality Jack, it means a lot to me."

Jack smiles as he picks up Zero, "It's no problem (Y/N), I'm happy to help you anytime."

You blush and smile, thanking him again before bidding him a goodnight which he returns. He leaves your room, closing the door and leaving you alone to dress for the night.

Stepping out of your heels, you place them by the closet door before shimmying out of your dress, folding it up and placing it on a shelf in the closet, the veil on your head going right on top of it. Finally you put the nightgown on, not a perfect fit but still comfortable, and get in your bed and snuggle into the sheets.

As you drift off to sleep, you dream of your plans tomorrow, your new friends, and Jack, before falling into a deep sleep with a smile on your face.
