Chapter 6

"Thank you."

Turning around, you find Sally staring at you with a wide smile across her face. You blush a little at the recognition.
"It was no problem, really."

"Well to me it was everything."

She walks over to you and hugs you tightly, whispering "how can I repay you for saving me?"

You were about to tell her that it really was no problem and how you did not require any repayment, but your mind replayed the looks on Sally and Jacks faces at the mention of your past, and you knew that she knew more than she let on.

"Well, I would like to know more about my past."

Sally stiffened and pulled back lightly from the hug, eyes refusing to meet yours. She looked like she was making a difficult decision, and she probably was given the circumstances.

Finally she sighed, and looked at you, then to Jack, and then closed her eyes.

"I don't know much, seeing as how I was made here, but I do know a little of your backstory."

She opened her eyes and looked at you with an emotion you couldn't quite pinpoint. Sadness? Pity? Understanding?

With one last look at Jack she began the story.

"In the mortal realm you were very depressed, some of the things you were depressed over were things you could control, but most were unchanging. Because of this you felt cold, and lost, and useless, and felt that the world was not worth living in."

"And then you met the love of your life. You felt as if he gave your life meaning, like he was your reason to live. He made you so happy you could burst, and you did the same for him. Amd the day finally came for your wedding, but it was not meant to be."

"On the way to the reception, you got into a fatal car crash. There was nothing anyone could do to save you. And by the time your fiance got to the scene you were gone."

She stared at you with so much sadness in her gaze, and you didn't know what to say. It was so much to take in at once, but faintly, very faintly, you can see memories in the back of your mind.

Blurry, it was all so blurry and you couldn't make out what was happening, but you can feel the familiar stinging of pain and assumed it was the crash.

And arm wrapped around your waist and pulled you close into a chest. It was Jack.

"Please don't cry."

Oh, you didn't realize you were crying. You wipe your cheek with your dress' sleeves and try to control your breathing.

"Who..." you look at Sally, then to Jack, who looked at you with a small, sad smile, "who was my fiance?"
