The Dark Lord's Nose
The Death Eaters started heading out to Apparate away by the manor's gate.Voldemort and Wormtail (with Nagini around Voldy's shoulders) took their time strolling towards the front door, discussing what Voldy would write on his wish list.
Then Voldemort smelled a familiar smell.
Now, Voldy smelling anything at all was an extremely rare occasion and often a reason to celebrate. There were also few smells that he recognized, and it wasn't often that there was enough of the smell around to recognize in the first place.
Something Voldemort enjoyed was being in the kitchen when Wormtail cooked his favorite things. The kitchen in his home wasn't very large, and it had two doors that usually remained shut. The three windows were usually also shut. This meant that smells stayed long enough for Voldy to smell them, and THIS meant that the few smells he knew included freshly baked cookies, biscuits and scones, and muffins (in case you haven't noticed, Voldemort had quite a sweet tooth).
The scent wafting into the entrance hall was a muffin smell.
"LUCIUS!" Voldemort yelled.
Lucius hurried over. "Yes, my lord?"
"Are you hiding something from me?"
"Not that I'm aware of."
Voldemort huffed and stomped off to the kitchens. "Excuse me," he said to the house elves, poking his head in. "Do you have the recipe for those muffins?"
"Oh yes, sir!" one elf nodded and scurried to a cupboard. She returned with a large cookbook.
Betty Crocker's Cookbook.
Voldemort took it and flipped through. There were Wormtail's notes, scrawled beside many recipes.
"How did you get this?" Voldemort asked the elf.
"Master Draco brought it in one day," she answered.
"What is it with the Malfoys lately?" Voldemort sighed.
