Meeting at Malfoy Manor
Voldy watched the Death Eaters file into the room and take their seats at the polished dining table they used for meetings. Nagini, as usual, was coiled in the center."Some of you may be aware that my regeneration party is coming up," Voldemort said when they were all seated.
There were many "Oh, yes" and "Congratulations". When they had quieted down, he continued.
"This year there is a problem. One of Wormtail's cookbooks have been stolen," Voldemort looked at each Death Eater, studying their reactions. "It holds a recipe that I need for this party. If you are the one who took it, rise now and fetch it. I might forgive you."
But no one stood.
"Well then," Voldemort leaned back, stroking Nagini. "We have a little problem."
Barty Crouch Jr. spoke. "My lord, do you recall the book's name? I could find another copy for you."
Bellatrix gave him a nasty look when Voldy nodded thoughtfully. "That was my idea," she mouthed furiously at the other Death Eater. She and Crouch tended to compete for being Voldemort's favorite Death Eater.
Wormtail stepped up from the shadows behind Voldemort's chair. "The book is from the U.S," he told them. "I got it while I, er-" he realized he had almost said "when I was hiding as a rat", which was not a good thing to bring up.
"-while I was looking for cake recipes for Voldemort's birthday," he quickly said. "It's called Betty Crocker's Cookbook."
"I've heard of her," Goyle's father piped up.
"She isn't real," Augustus Rookwood informed him. He faltered when the other Death Eaters looked at him. "She was made up by a flour milling company...part of an advertising campaign in the late 1800's..." Rookwood coughed. "I made some cookies for a friend one year." He then fell silent.
"Real or not," Voldemort said, drawing attention back to himself, "I need this cookbook. It would be very useful to have the original back, because Wormtail has had it for many years and has all sorts of little notes."
"Of course," the Death Eaters nodded.
"We will start looking after the meeting," Dolohov assured him.
"Speaking of your regeneration party," Bellatrix said, glancing smugly at Crouch (he been the one to remember to ask about gifts), "What gifts would you like?"
"Ah, yes," Voldy said. "I'm not sure yet. Let's meet again next week and I'll pass out my wish list."
"Sounds good," the Death Eaters agreed.
"Very well," Voldy stood. "I'll see you again later."
