Chapter 8
Midnight stared into the pitch blackness, knowing that she was just fooled by someone she thought of as a friend. She knew she had to get out of that house as soon as she could. For the tribes. For Fern. She scurried up the stairs to see Marigold. Maybe she would help her, but only if she could tell her without words. This is for Fern. For all my other friends. Their fate all depends on me.
Midnight could hardly contain all that pressure. If she failed, everyone she ever loved would be destroyed.
She rushed up and pushed open the door.
“Mew?” Midnight said.
“Oh Midnight! Where`s Tiger?” She replied.
Midnight scurried down the steps, hoping Marigold would follow. She turned her head to see if she was coming. She was!
“Mew?”
“Midnight, come back!” Marigold cried.
Then, Marigold stopped. Midnight stopped.
“If I go any farther and my dad finds out, he`ll kill me!”
“Meow!” Midnight wailed.
“Ugg. Fine.” Marigold whispered into the darkness.
The two climbed down the stairs into the pitch black downstairs. Then, Midnight wandered up to the door.
“You want to go out? You can`t go out silly cat!”” Marigold cried while she was laughing.
Midnight jumped up on the shelf that used to have the keys. Then, she reenacted of how Tiger escaped, but with invisible keys.
“Wait. So you`re telling me that Tiger escaped?” Marigold cried. “And now you want out, too?” She said as she started crying, thinking that the cats she loved the most hated her.
Then, Midnight jumped onto Marigold`s lap and started purring, rubbing her face onto her. Marigold thought that was a sigh. Midnight had something out there that was important to her.
“Okay. But only if you promise to come back.”
“Meow!” Midnight cried, answering ‘of course’ to her question.
Then, Marigold opened the door. Midnight ran out, knowing that she could stop Tiger now.
