Chapter 4
Daniela's eyes widened as she was amazed by what was in front of her. Louis was standing in her way, arms crossed in front of his face. "Dani, are you alright? You weren't hurt or anything?" Louis asked sympathetically. In the moment that Daniela was about to get hit by the ball, Louis quickly jumped in front of Daniela to save her. "Yeah, I am alright. Are you okay?" Daniela asked, eyes wide and hands out to see if there were any marks on Louis' arms. "I am fine, it was nothing," Louis assured Daniela, smiling. "I really can't believe you did that. Please don't ever do something like that again. I am serious," warned Daniela, trying to make everything that has happened make sense. "Well, that's what friends are for, am I right?" Louis asked. "Yeah, I guess so," Daniela nodded. "Okay, now that you two had your little scene, let us continue.," Aya suggested. "Alright!" Louis said excitedly and he served the ball.* * * *
Daniela entered social studies class. She sat in her seat as Mr. Derail started to speak of the new project that they are starting. "So, we will be starting a new project on Medieval Europe. I have already assigned the project and group for each of you. It is all on these two sheets of paper," informed Mr. Derail as he put the sheets on the blackboard. "If any of you have any questions, come to me. You may all take a look at the list now," said Mr. Derail. Everyone got up and quickly went over to the list. People pushed and shoved as they were trying to get a look. Where am I? thought Daniela. Oh, I found it! Hmm, Daniela Luis, Frank Diaz, and . . . Louis Lucas? Daniela wondered, confused and surprised. Daniela looked at the list again. "So my group is doing medieval battling. Yeah, that’s interesting," she whispered as she nodded her head. Daniela squeezed her way out of the crowd, almost falling in the process. She looked for her group. Daniela saw Louis standing outside of the crowd looking for his group as well. She decided to join him. Louis then noticed her walking towards him. "Looks like we're in the same group together," he said. "Yup," Daniela responded awkwardly, just remembering about what happened earlier. "Yeah . . ," Louis said, starting to remember as well.
"Louis!" someone shouted. It was Frank. Frank's hair shown black. His eyes were brown and hid behind his glasses. Frank wore a red shirt, jeans, and sneakers. "Frank!" Louis exclaimed back, putting his hands up and him and Frank slapped hands. "Hey Daniela," Frank greeted, turning to face Daniela. "Uh, hi Frank," said Daniela, wondering if she should say anything else. "Okay, so what should we do to show what 'medieval fighting' is?" asked Louis. "Maybe we should do an act," suggested Daniela. "Yes, an act. Great idea!" said Frank excitedly. Louis suddenly jumped. "You and me, Frank. We'll battle it out. And Daniela will cheer us on, because she will be the princess of Medieval Europe. I'll defeat you, and for my prize, I can take the princess for my own!" exclaimed Louis confidently, putting his leg on the chair, fists up, and looking at the ceiling.
Daniela blushed uncontrollably, surprised at what Louis said. Frank started to shake his finger. "Whoa, whoa. Wait. Why do I have to be the one who fails in utter defeat?" he protested. "Because I want to win," Louis said plainly. "But I don't want to look like a failure," Frank complained, coming closer to Louis, head to one side. "Too bad," Louis said doing the same as Frank. "Um, you guys, this is just an act, not the real thing, we . . ," started Daniela. "No, since this guy won't accept my offer, we are going to make it real," said Louis, eyeing Frank. "Fine, then," Frank replied back. "But don't take it the wrong way Daniela! I just don't want to lose to this guy," Frank admitted. "It's alright . . uh . . I know," Daniela stuttered, not knowing what else to say, given the situation. "Then it's settled, the battle of the medieval!" shouted Louis. "Oh no," muttered Daniela, hand to forehead.

"Melissa, I don't know what to do," Daniela said to Melissa on the bus to home. "Yeah, it seems like a pretty tough situation, especially when it comes to boys," Melissa asserted. "Why did I even think of the idea? I mean, it sounded fun, but I wasn't thinking about the fighting part. I am so dumb!" declared Daniela, hitting herself on the head. "Lets try to bring it down a bit, I think the whole bus heard you," advised Melissa. Daniela took a deep breath. "Yeah your right," Daniela agreed. "So what's your project?" "Oh, my group is doing the plague. So, we decided to do a beauty advice column for it. Since it was an 'all-girl' group, we couldn't help but do it," beamed Melissa. "Oh, that's cool," Daniela replied. "Ugh. If the situation that I'm in is crazy, imagine the situations that I will be in later on. I just have this weird feeling about this year," She sighed.
