Chapter 16

Daniela slowly entered Pre-Algebra class. She slumped in her seat, put her arms on the desk, and rested her head in her arms. Alexia entered the classroom and noticed Daniela. She sat in her seat and took out a pencil. She reached her arm out, pencil in her hand, and started to poke Daniela. As this was happening, Louis entered the class and sat in his seat, he turned and looked at Daniela. Daniela lifted her head and looked at Alexia. Alexia smiled and waved to her. Daniela smiled slightly and waved. She noticed someone staring at her. Daniela turned her head and saw Louis looking at her. Daniela quickly looked away. Louis did the same. Alexia raised an eyebrow and looked at the both of them. Then, Mrs. Werner spoke, "We'll be having a test on chapter five of your textbooks on Friday. And to review for that, I have review worksheets." Everyone moaned. "You guys didn't let me finish, for this worksheet, I'm letting you guys work with a partner of your choice. If it gets too loud, it's going to be dead silent for the rest of the period." Mrs. Werner finished. "Yes! Partners!" whispered Nicki excitedly. Daniela sighed.
Mrs. Werner handed out the papers and everyone got up and moved around the classroom. Alexia got up and walked over to Daniela. She gave her a look. Daniela nodded. "Shoo Louis. Go work with Nicki." Alexia told Louis. Louis calmly got up, gathered his stuff, and sat next to Nicki who was already waiting for him. Alexia sat next to Daniela. Daniela took out some loose leaf paper and started the first problem. Alexia stared at Daniela. Daniela soon noticed and looked at her. Alexia kept on staring. Daniela started to feel uncomfortable. Alexia finally spoke, "Are you okay?" "I'm fine." Daniela looked away. Alexia frowned. "No you're not. Tell me. What bugging you?" she asked. Daniela sighed. "It's nothing important and it should be forgotten." Daniela continued the word problem. Alexia put her hand on Daniela's arm. "Look, girl, you can tell me anything." Alexia assured Daniela. Daniela sighed deeply and leaned over to Alexia. She whispered in her ear. Alexia's eyes widened. "No way!" Alexia shouted.
Everyone turned and looked at the both of them. "Are you guys working or just chit-chatting?" Mrs. Werner asked. "Working." apologized Alexia. They all returned to what they were doing. "Really?" Alexia whispered this time. Daniela sadly nodded her head. "So I guess it's over for you two." Alexia sighed. "Yeah, but it doesn't really matter anymore. " Daniela whispered. "But you still like him, don't you?" Alexia asked. Daniela's eyes widened, then she laughed awkwardly. "Why would you think that?" "I know have only known each other for like five months now, but I can see through you. You obviously still like him because of the way your were acting this morning." Alexia informed Daniela. Daniela thought for a moment and blushed lightly. "Yeah, but I have to move on." whispered Daniela. "Alright." sighed Alexia. "That's your choice." They both continued to work on the word problems and equations.
"Daniela!" Frank called as Daniela entered Science. "Can you believe it! We're in science now, it just seems like just a week ago we started social studies." Daniela sat in her seat and slouched. "Yeah . . ." Daniela's voice trailed off. Frank walked over to her and knelt down. "What's wrong? I thought you were going to feel better. Is everything going good with Louis and you?" Frank asked. Daniela's eyes widened. "He didn't tell you?" Daniela asked, surprised. "Tell me what?" Frank was confused. Daniela leaned over and whispered in his ear. "But that doesn't make any sense!" complained Frank. "He didn't tell you why?" "Nope, not at all." Daniela replied. "Why didn't you ask him?" Frank asked disappointingly. "I wasn't thinking about that." sighed Daniela, facing away. "I wonder why he didn't tell me yet." said Frank, scratching his head. Alexia entered the classroom. By the look on Frank and Daniela's face, she knew that Daniela told him what happened. "You heard?" Alexia asked as she put down her stuff on her desk and walked over to the both of them. "Yeah, she told me." Frank replied. "Let's have rebellion!" yelled Alexia.
At that moment, Louis entered the room and heard what Alexia had announced. "Oh can I join? What's it about?" Louis asked excitedly. Alexia frowned. Daniela quickly waved her hands, telling Alexia not to say anything. Alexia saw her and sighed. "You wouldn't want to know." Alexia told Louis. Louis gave a confused look. Frank quickly went up to Louis. "So Louis, anything new happen?" Frank asked. "No." Louis answered walking to his desk. "Oh really?" Frank walked quickly to Louis. Daniela was watching them. Louis turned and looked at Daniela with sad eyes. Daniela's eyes widened. Louis then looked back at Frank. "Yeah, nothing important." he replied. Everyone soon started to pour into the classroom, one by one, as everything was happening. Rick, Nicki, Keira, Allison, David, Kate, Becca, Raina, Diane, Aya, Ron, and Ed. "Hey Daniela." Aya greeted Daniela. Daniela died inside. "Hi." Daniela said painfully. The bell rang.
"Everyone get in your seats!" ordered Mrs. Bore. Everyone quickly scrambled into their assigned seats. "Alright. We'll be starting a new, I guess you could say, project. But we'll only be doing it during repeat period. It's called a blurry challenge. And the blurry challenge we are doing is called The Riddle Ocean. For the first part of this 'project', you'll get to have a partner, but after that, you're on your own." Mrs. Bore started to hand out two worksheets. "These worksheets have some information to get you started and I shared a document with all of you guys to start writing you information. After I finish handing out the papers, you all may calmly and quietly get your partners and start working." Mrs. Bore walked all around the room handing out the rest of the worksheets. Once she finish, everyone started to walk around, looking for a partner. Daniela sat in her seat looking around the room for a partner.
Then, she noticed Aya come towards her. Aya sat in the desk next to her. "Hey, you want to be partners?" Aya asked. "Uh, let me think about it." Daniela replied. She quickly turned around and search the room once more for someone else without a partner. Daniela spotted Alexia. Daniela waited impatiently for Alexia to look her way. Finally, Alexia turned her head, she looked at Daniela. Daniela pointed at Alexia then to herself. Alexia understood and nodded her head. Daniela smiled and turned back to face Aya. "Oh, I was planning to work with Alexia, sorry." Daniela apologized. Aya looked disappointed. "Oh ok. I'll just work with someone else." Aya replied and she got up and walked away. Daniela sighed and got up as well. She walked over to the lab table, where Alexia was sitting. Daniela brought a stool and placed it next to Alexia. She sat down. "So, what was that all about? I thought you were going to work with Aya." Alexia asked. Daniela widened her eyes and shook her head. "Well why?" Alexia asked. "I'm not very fond of her." Daniela's voice toned down so no one would hear her but Alexia.
Alexia's eyes widened. "I never thought you, Daniela, wouldn't like someone. You are always so nice, and you never get mad." Alexia told Daniela. Daniela smiled. "I hide it. Many people don't see it because it's hidden. I might be sad, but I look happy. I may be mad, but I look calm." Daniela replied. "What about today, you didn't hide that." said Alexia. Daniela frowned. "Why should I hide something that tore me to pieces. I don't think I could compel being joyful, when I'm actually in a time of sorrow and despair." Alexia sighed. "That makes sense, and I have respect for you Daniela. I've seen many things happen to you over this past school year, and yet you were able to keep a smile on your face." Alexia confessed. "Thank you." Daniela replied. "Hey! Daniela and Alexia. Are you guys working hard or hardly working?" Mrs. Bore shouted from her desk. Daniela blushed in embarrassment. "Working hard." Daniela replied. "Alright. Then I want to see you two writing." said Mrs. Bore. "Okay." Alexia answered. Daniela and Alexia put their pencils in their hands and pretended to write on the worksheets. Mrs. Bore watched them suspiciously then returned to her paperwork. "Second time today." whispered Alexia. Daniela started to laugh quietly. Alexia smiled. "That's right." Daniela chuckled.
