The Explanation (Chapter 9)
When Foxpaw got Cinderpaw to Thunderclan he was immediately recognized and immediately whispered/talked about. "what is a Shadowclan cat doing here?!" One cat hissed. "I don't know but he needs to get away from Cinderpaw before Bluefang comes back..." Another cat growled."SILENCE!" Whitestar yowled when he made his way up the highledge and is now standing on top. "What are you doing here Foxpaw?" Whitestar asked the Shadowclan apprentice. Foxpaw then explained everything that happened. "...and then I pushed Cinderpaw's head underwater, but not long enough to drown her. She then immediately jerked her head up out of the water and I started to laugh. After I calmed down I realized she had tears in her eyes and was mumbling something. I was concerned, so I brought her back here." Whitestar seemed to understand.
Longpelt and Goldenstream then walked out of the Med Den and over to a shaking Cinderpaw. Goldenstream then took Cinderpaw into the Med Den to calm her down. Longpelt started to explain something to Foxpaw. "When Cinderpaw was a kit she had an... experience. A bad one."
"What happened?" Foxpaw asked.
"Well, Thunderclan once had a cat named Nightstep. Bluefang and her were somewhat friends. Until one day things changed. Nightstep went crazy when she saw that Bluefang had left camp with her kit, Blackkit who is now Blackpaw and took Cinderkit, who is now Cinderpaw out to the lake. Of course, Bluefang followed. Nightpelt was on top of the highest cliff that went over the deepest part of the lake and held Cinderkit over the edge. Thrushclaw and Nightstep's mate were behind Bluefang. They all tried to stop Nightstep, but they failed. Nightstep dropped Cinderkit into deepest part of the lake and Bluefang, being the protective mother that she is, jumped in after her kit and barely saved Cinderkit from drowning. Once they got back to camp, Nightstep was immediately exiled, but Blackkit (Blackpaw now) stayed and Bluefang had taken her as one of her own." Longpelt explained. "That's a lot to happen to a kit..." Foxpaw said. "It is. That is why we don't let Cinderpaw go out to the lake unsupervised." Longpelt said. Foxpaw nodded in understanding.
"When Cinderpaw comes to her senses can you tell her something for me?" Foxpaw asked Longpelt. "Of course. What is it?" Longpelt said. "Can you tell her that it was nice to meet her and that I'll see her at the Gathering?" Foxpaw said. 'If we even get to go.' Foxpaw thought after he spoke. "Of course." Longpelt nodded at Foxpaw. The Medicine Cat then looked up at the sky and saw that it was noon. "I think you should head back to Shadowclan now Foxpaw. Its noon." Longpelt said. "Noon? Already?! I gotta go! Bye Longpelt!" Foxpaw yelled over his shoulder as he ran out of Thunderclan camp and back to Shadowclan territory.
