Another Battle (Chapter 29)
As Cindertuft hurried across the clearing with herbs in her jaws, cats were fighting everywhere around them. WindClan and ShadowClan had decided to attack ThunderClan for some reason. Fortunately for ThunderClan, RiverClan had shown up to help but no one knew why. ThunderClan didn't question it though since they were grateful for the help. A lot of blood was being spilled, a few cats have died before Cindertuft could get to them. Longpelt had decided to help Cindertuft heal the cats since she knew Cindertuft would need help.Snowstar and Coalstar, the Riverclan leader, were fighting Spottedstar, the WindClan leader, and Clawstar, the ShadowClan leader. Leaders against leaders. Cindertuft saw Brightflame and Blackfrost fighting against two WindClan warriors. Bluefang had killed two cats and injured few more. Cindertuft had seen Hawkflame a few times as he was fighting. Actually, now that she thinks about it, it donged on Cindertuft that she only seen Hawkflame when he jumped over to protect her from incoming threats.
Cindertuft hurried to reach an apprentice before he bled out from an injury on his back. Before Cindertuft reached the apprentice, someone had barreled into Cindertuft's flank, and she was sent rolling to the side. When Cindertuft looked to see who it was, she saw that it was Rainpaw, the one who almost stole Hawkflame from her. "R-rainpaw?" Cindertuft gasped in realization.
"Its Rainheart! You fox-dung," Rainpaw, now Rainheart, hissed. "This is what you get for taking Hawkflame away when I almost had him!"
Cindertuft growled as she glared, her blue eyes filled with hatred, at Rainheart. Her ears pinned back against her head as she growled louder. "He wasn't yours and he would never be!" She hissed as she suddenly clawed Rainheart's nose.
Rainheart's eyes widened in surprise since she was not really expecting that response. Cindertuft knew her training in the Dark Forest would help her now. Cindertuft sensed that Mapleclaw was close and watching the two fight. She kicked Rainheart off of herself and stood, careful of her bad leg. Rainheart then realized that Cindertuft's permanently injured leg was her weakness. Rainheart then evilly grinned as she crouched, about to pounce with her claws unsheathed as her tail slashed side to side. When Rainheart did pounce, Cindertuft quickly jumped to the side, dodging the attack. Rainheart was quiet surprised so Cindertuft took her chance and clawed Rainheart's flank. Cindertuft saw Mapleclaw beside Rainheart and she knew that Mapleclaw was thinking. Cindertuft grinned as she turned trotted away with her tail straight up.
"Hey! Get back here you—" Rainheart's hiss was cut short as Mapleclaw sliced her throat open. Rainheart's eyes widened in shock and her ears went down as she started gasping and coughing for air. "W-w-wha—" before Rainheart could finish speaking, she collapsed and the light slowly faded from her eyes.
Mapleclaw then appeared beside Cindertuft, who was now beside the apprentice she was going to save earlier. Luckily for him, he stayed alive until Cindertuft reached him. She was now placing herbs on the apprentice's injury. She ordered the apprentice to head to the Med Den to lay down so he did as he was told.
"She's dead now. Just as you wanted." Mapleclaw purred. Cindertuft smiled. "Thanks, Mapleclaw. Even though you're evil, you're more of a mother than Bluefang ever was. You actually care for me, unlike Bluefang."
"No problem, sweetie." Mapleclaw licked the top of Cindertuft's head lovingly. Cindertuft purred again and nodded.
Later on, Mapleclaw lready left and the battle was soon over. Soon, Cindertuft was left alone to wonder: why hadn't Hawkflame saved her from Rainheart?
