She left that night.
She was sure that the assassins didn't see her. If they had, she was sure they would've reacted the moment they saw her run. The brown haired woman only stopped once she made it to a river. Still clutching Skye to her body, she fell onto her knees. Skye coughed and sputtered, blood pooling beneath her tongue.
Alex helped Skye onto her side and watched in horroe as crimson fluids spilled past her parted lips. Suddenly, the sound of footsteps and a shrill call alerted her that someone was coming.
Christopher and his band of assassins.
The woman's eyes darted left and right. No opening . Both dead ends. Deciding that it was their only choice, Alex leapt into the water. It was chilling and cold, feeling like tiny needles pricking her pale skin. She hurriedly swam, and once she made it to the other bank, slid into a kneel. Christopher and his mindless followers grumbled in fury as they retreated to their camp.
Alex and Skye were safe, for now at least. Alex knew that the assassins would eventually find away over the rushing waters. Eventually. This gave the women some time to rest and recover. They camped within what was left of a horse drawn carriage.
Now that Skye had time to rest, Alex had time to think.
She remembered how things were when she was a child. Before the wars struck. Humans had come so far. In fact, it had advanced to far. People had stopped believing in the gods. They'd become too reliant on technology that eventually, everything collapsed ontop of itself. People stopped believing in the gods. This angered nearby civilizations that war was declared. The ancient technology was lost, and the battle still rages on today.
And from what Alex heard, there was only one person who would be strong and smart enough to help win this battle. But a person like that would be near impossible to find.
She sighed and looked upon the sleeping form of Skye. The blonde was sleeping soundly now, her breath light and occasionally hitching in her throat.
"Maybe two people...", she thought.
"Maybe..."
