Breaking Point
There was a white foxy like robot on the ceiling with a second head staring at them too. The one head definitely was a fox but the body looked like a creepy worm like creature. “That’s Mangle!” Rett freaked as the robot detached from the ceiling and landed on Rett clawing at him. Asher faught with the creature as it bit at him and Rett. “Get it off! Get it off me!” He screamed as the second head bit his arm. Asher took the butt of his gun and slammed it hard on the back of the fox head stunning the beast and grabbed the main support that was its neck and threw it across the room.Ash tugged at Rett’s collar and forced him onto his feet. They scampered into the west hall, stopping in their tracks seeing a set of glowing eyes. “Ahhh hells no. Who’s that??” Asher whined pointing his gun at them. Rett held the side of his head glaring at the animatronic. The blood trickled down as his eyes flickered yellow again, “That’s Chica.” Ash wasn’t gonna wait for her, so he pulled the trigger and the bullet skimmed the shoulder of her metal body. She fled from them.
Both sighed looking behind nervously for Mangle. “So…what’s with that thing? It wasn’t performing like the others.” Asher asked, shining his light on the ceiling. Rett shook his head, “She was a failure to say the least. Wasn’t actually supposed to be active..but just like the others…” “Just did huh? What a f***ed up place….did the owners build on a burial ground or something…this is messed up shit.”
Rett watched the flashlight gleam on the gun that Ash was holding. The dining room probably wasn’t the best place to be since it had many entrances…but they needed escape routes.
Rett grinned looking at Ash, “You gotta get me one of those…” “Nah, you’re pretty kick ass with that knife of yours.” Their friendship was definitely going to be an odd one, Ash thought. A click echoed making them jump and stare at the curtains where foxy the pirate dwelled. “He’s back in there ain’t he?” He asked Rett. Nodding, Rett re-evaluated their situation. “So, we chased Chica away…Foxy’s back in his cove. Bonnie is probably gonna be pissed like Freddy…and Mangle is AWOL.” Asher didn’t like the sound of that. “Can you not say AWOL…it puts me on edge. That thing is seriously f***ed up.” He felt a hand on his shoulder, Rett was trying to comfort him. “I got your back in case it comes back.” Ash smiled at him, “Thanks man. Good to know, you got my ass covered…cause she’s gonna chew it off.” Rett snickered, “Dude, worry about yer face…she almost took that off.” “That was you Rett, not me.”
Ash felt a nudge from Rett, making him chuckle. “Shut up…I forgot how much of a creeper she was.” He couldn’t help it, “Maybe she’s crushin on you.” He could feel Rett’s glare, “what the f***…it’s a robot. A deranged robot!” “A possessed robot, spirits have feelings ya know.” Ash added. Rett punched him in the shoulder, “Cut it out…Your logic sucks.” Ash bursted into laughter, “My logic trolls your invalid points. You’re just pissed that I may be right.”
Rett grabbed him and slammed him against the wall, his eyes were glowing yellow. Ash’s blood went cold. “Are you f***ing making fun of me?” Rett growled, his voice very dark. “R-rett….it’s me. I was just joking. Calm down.” Ash said his knees shaking. This wasn’t him…there was something very wrong about Rett. “Rett, it’s your pal. Asher, remember?” Rett’s eyes dimmed and turned back to normal, his head leaned on the wall beside Asher’s head. “Oooh…my head.”
Ash’s heart was racing, -What was that?- He touched Rett’s arm, startled by the wetness of the blood. “Crap…forgot about that. You ok now?” Ash asked, looking at Rett’s face. “Ya…blanked out there.”
There was something in Ash that felt the need to check something. He held Rett’s head looking into his eyes. “Wha...what are you doing?” Ash stayed quiet looking into his eyes, “What happened to you Rett? What are you afraid of and not telling me?” Rett’s eyes gleamed again as the knife rose and stabbed into Ash’s shoulder making him scream. “YOU DON”T CARE ABOUT ME!! STOP FAKING IT!” Rett screeched. Asher pulled him close, holding his head. “Rett! You’re not alone…stop it. I’m here! You aren’t alone…Not alone!” The knife kept stabbing into his shoulder, then his arm, then the wall where it didn’t move anymore. Asher’s chest heaved as he tried to keep the broken man from going insane.
“I’m here. I’ll be your friend. Stop this, you aren’t alone.” Asher whispered, tears running down his cheeks as he could feel the agony and memories flood through him. Rett’s memories of being picked on by children, being beat upon and the adults not doing anything. His own parents abandoning him. “Life wasn’t fair to you, but you’re still here. You’re a survivor, I’ll be your guide. Your friend.”
He could feel Rett shaking as he tried to stand straight. He was positive that Rett was crying too. “What…what are you?” Ash wasn’t sure he should answer that, but knew that he deserved an answer after what they’ve been through. “Promise you won’t call me crazy?”
What came next shocked Ash even more. Rett pulled him close and hugged him. “I won’t…I won’t…” He whispered sniffling. “I’m a bit of a newbie medium.” Ash replied, rubbing Rett’s back looking into the darkness worried about the animatronics still. “Like…a psychic?” Rett said rubbing his eyes. “More like, I can feel emotions and see into people’s pasts if they will let me.”
Rett grabbed his flashlight from the ground, and refused to look at Asher. “Are you going to be alright?” The stab wounds did hurt like a bitch, but it made him understand more about Rett. Clearly no one tried to understand this damaged man. “I’ll live, the army was worse. I won’t hold this against you Rett.” Rett still wasn’t looking at him. Sighing Ash pulled him close, “Hey…snap out of it. You have me as a friend alright? Let’s get through this night together in one piece.” There was a pained sad look in Rett’s eyes. “How do you stay positive and disregard what just happened?”
Ash smiled softly at him, “Because I know what happened. I know this isn’t what you wanted to become. I’m gonna help you Rett, I promise. You won’t be alone and fall into despair. Especially from these assholes!!” Ash yelled out into the darkness at the animatronics. Rett smiled at that remark. “You are definitely stronger than I am.”
He grinned at his damaged friend and yanked out the knife from the wall. “Save this for those bastards. I think I heard one of them movin again.” Rett looked around holding the knife shakily as it was covered with his friend’s blood. Ash went to move but felt dizzy and leaned back against the wall. He was losing more blood than he originally thought. “I think we need to head to the back room.” Startled and worried, Rett looked at him. “Why?” Ash debated on telling him the full truth or not. “I don’t think I can run like this…I damaged my leg when I tripped Bonnie.” With a quick shine of his flash light, Rett scanned the room. “We can go now, no one’s around.”
They walked over to the back room and locked the door. Ash pushed a table against it for extra precautions. He slumped to the ground beside Rett, the flashlight falling to the ground. “Ash? What’s wrong?” Rett’s voice sounded frantic. “Easy, I’m just a bit dizzy. Blood loss does that you know…” He heard a pained inhale come from Rett. He felt guilty for it. Ash closed his eyes, hearing rustling beside him. “Here.” Rett said, starting to undo Asher’s shirt. He tried to not smirk as Rett was trying to take care of his wounds. His shirt was covered in blood which made Rett wince knowing he was responsible for it. “I’m so sorry….”
“Don’t be Rett. I know it’s not your fault.” Rett shook his head, cutting strips of his own shirt into bandages and wrapping it around the gashes. “I stabbed my own friend...how could you be alright with that?” Ash chuckled, “I understand more about insanity than you think Rett. War will teach you all about it.” Rett stopped looking at him with a very sad expression. “Was war that horrible to you?”
“Yes, I’ve seen innocent men, turn insane by the memories of their dead comrades. The scenes of war still haunt them.” Rett tied the last ribbon of cloth, “and yourself?” Ash smirked at him, “I’ve told myself that I survived to tell my story and help others.” He could see Rett’s eyes go glassy again, “I don’t have the strength to be like that.” Ash saw him look away, his hands balling into fists.
“It takes the harshest situations to sometimes turn us into warriors. You aren’t weak though, you’ve been dealt a bad hand. I’m just here to offer you another way to victory.” Rett turned to him, “No one’s been like this towards me.” He nodded at him, “I know Rett. That’s why I probably was drawn to this place. To help you.”
Rett leaned against him wiping the knife off. “I’m sorry about the stabbing, I just..” “I know. It’s alright.” Ash cut off, not wanting Rett to agonize and torture himself over it. Ash put his arm around Rett, gripping his shoulder. “We’re buddies in this war. Keep it together.” That made Rett smile. “Ya, you’re right.” Ash grabbed the knife from Rett, cutting his bloody shirt off and slicing the clean part into strips.
Rett stayed still as Ash dressed his arm wound that he got from Mangle biting. “There, now we are both tended to.” Ash said using the rest to press against Rett’s head. “We’re both bloody messes.” A chuckle rose out of them.
Ash blushed slightly feeling Rett touch his chest and grab his dog tags. “Were you just joking about the dog tags?” He was a bit surprised by the question, “Well, we could as our own private joke.” Rett snickered, “What would we call our section then?” It was a break from the insanity that bombarded them. Ash pondered on it. “How about Metal Brigade Rebellion?” Rett had to laugh, “Sure! Can I be the captain?” “I have to be general, since I came up with the name for our section!” Ash argued. This whole thing made them burst into fits of laughter as they weren’t sure if they were to survive the night.
It was 5:12am, the two of them were laying on their backs beside each other joking around. “So, which is worse? Being stabbed or shot?” Rett asked. “Well, you get poisoning from bullets and/or bleed out slowly. Same with a knife, though you could survive a knife wound more easily seeing that it’s a clean entry.” Ash answered. “But what if it’s jagged and rusty?” “Dude, what the f*** are you carrying around? It’s not a horror movie!”
They laughed again. Ash shuddered, he felt cold. The place was full of angry spirits and they wanted vengeance. Rett felt him shudder. “This room is cold…” Rett whispered, breathing out a cloud of hot air. “I think one of them is standing outside…” Asher said, holding Rett’s hand suddenly. “Ash? Ash, what’s going on?” He asked as Ash squeezed his hand feeling a sharp pain in his head. “No…Stop it.”
His yellow eye glowed as Rett tried to stay calm, “Asher?” Ash looked to him finally, “They definitely hate the guards, but they won’t tell me why.” Rett looked to the door nervously. Ash felt his body go numb, how long did Rett have that knife? Did he get poisoning from it? There was a cold feeling creeping over him, but he didn’t want to alert Rett to it. He grasped Rett’s hand tighter, Rett whipped around frightened as the door started to pound.
“Asher!” His voice cracked, as if he sensed what Ash was trying not to convey. “I’m ok. I’m not leaving that easily.” “W-What…” Rett whispered shakily as he watched Asher sit up slowly. “They ain’t gonna win. Not tonight.” Ash said bracing himself on the table glaring at the door. “Get behind me.”
Rett did but he was worried about Ash, he wasn’t sure what was going on. Ash took a few steps towards the door. The knocking stopped. He took in a breath before grabbing the knob and swinging it open and shooting at the bear. “Go back to hell demon!” Asher yelled before slamming his body into Freddy and against the wall. “Get going Rett! Back to the office!” Rett didn’t waste time, he ran past Ash towards the office. Ash followed him as a disoriented Freddy chased them.
They reached the office, “Shut the doors!” Ash screamed sliding in the office as the metal door slammed down. Rett leaned on the desk panting, “We made it back.” Ash smiled at him, “And we’re about done our shift.” He got a nod from Rett, Ash slid to the floor. Concerned Rett walked over, “You don’t look good.” Ash leaned his head on Rett’s shoulder and whispered, “I’ve been worse, besides at least I’ve got a friend with me this time.”
