The Past Returns
Rett smiled for a second but the pained concern returned all too quickly. “You need a hospital.” Ash chuckled, “No, I just need a bottle of vodka and I’ll be set.” That confused Rett, “Why Vodka?” Asher put his hand on Rett’s shoulder, “Cause it has two uses. Disinfectant and pain killer.” That made him laugh. The night rolled to 6 o clock finally and sure enough the animatronics stopped their attack. “Frickin up assholes.” Asher grumbled sitting in the chair, Rett stood beside him watching the cameras. “Yep.” He couldn’t help but look over at Ash. He honestly looked like he survived a war tonight. –Part of that is my fault…-Rett scolded himself. Ash peered at him from the edge of his vision, he heard Rett.
“You don’t need to do that.” Surprised he looked at Ash, “What do you mean?” Ash sighed leaning back carefully, grimaced a bit while doing so. “Beat yourself up for what happened. I forgive you.” “Ya, but..”
Ash touched Rett’s hand, “No buts…Now stop being a soppy whiny baby.” Rett’s face kinda had a confused embarrassed look on it. It made Ash want to laugh but he tried hard to stay serious. What came next surprised Asher, as Rett smiled at him.
A knock from the right door startled the two of them. “Hey guys! Let me in, its Jeremy.” Sighing, Rett walked over and pushed the button. Jeremy had short curly brown hair and the greenest eyes Ash ever saw for a person. Jeremy saw Ash and smiled, “Oh so you’re the new mystery Guard. Welcome to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. How was your first night here?” Rett watched Ash carefully, wondering what his answer would be to that.
“Well, it wasn’t what I expected. It’s simple though.” Jeremy smiled at that comment, “That’s great to hear. Rett’s been helping you lots I assume then.” Looking off to the side Rett refused to look at Jeremy and Ash as Jeremy moved from the door way to besides Asher.
“Oh my god! You’re bleeding!” Jeremy exclaimed freaked out from all the blood. “Don’t worry about it, it looks worse than it is.” Examining the blood soaked bandages, Jeremy shook his head. “I doubt that, these are serious wounds.” Ash rolled his eyes, “I’m not gonna die from these. Gesh!”
Jeremy glared up at him, “You lied about the night being easy. The animatronics did all this to you?” “Ya, so what if I lied. It’s my life not yours.” Asher didn’t like how Jeremy’s tone was getting stern and almost angry. “Why would you lie though!?” “Cause it ain’t your business, you aren’t the manager and you chickened out and changed to the day shift.” Ash growled, getting irritated with Jeremy’s persistence.
“I have a right to be concerned! It’s not breaking the law. And I’m not a chicken.” That made Ash chuckle, “That’s not what I heard, but whatever.” Rett felt Jeremy glare at him, he looked back at Jeremy and gave him the coldest stare he could muster. Jeremy immediately backed down.
Rett couldn’t help but grin at that small victory. Ash stood up, balling his fists up. “You’re weak, that’s why you will never make the Brigade.” “wha?” Jeremy was very confused by that statement. “What the hell are you talking about?” He looked over at Rett who was avoiding his gaze but had a wide grin plastered to his face. –Who the hell is this new guy?- Jeremy thought very unsettled by his attitude and secrecy.
“Well our shift is up, your turn Jer.” Ash said, turning and leaving the office. Rett followed him not wanting Jeremy to badger him with questions.
When they got outside Ash pulled out a cigarette and lit it taking a long draw. “It’s been a long night…” Rett walked up beside him, “I know…thank you for tonight.” A chuckled escaped Ash, “I should be thanking you for showing me the ropes.” Rett blushed slightly, letting his bangs fall over his eyes. “I guess...” “Say, you wanna drink at my place? We’ve survived the war.” He couldn’t believe his ears, after all that happened and he was being invited to Ash’s place. “I-uh. You sure?” “Yeah! Hell crash at my place if you need to. We’re buddies now right?”
In disbelief Rett, was frozen in place. “Y-You’re serious?” Ash took another puff of his cigarette, “Don’t make me say it again.” Rett fidgeted, this was a situation he wasn’t use to. Finally putting the butt out he turned to Rett, “Let’s go, hop in my car.” Asher added, walking over to his black Grand Am. Rett looked at the building nearby where his apartment was.
“Oh ok.” Asher patted his back, “Chill out man!” Rett sighed, “Sure.”
They drove for a while, Asher had the windows down and the breeze felt great. Rett closed his eyes as the wind went through his hair. The sun was beginning to peek out and turn the sky a purple tint. The engine of the grand am roared as Asher’s foot pressed the accelerator more. “Slow down…” Rett said holding onto the frame of the car. Ash took his hand off the clutch and touched Rett’s hand. “Take it easy, I’m an excellent driver. Besides..I have cop radar, probably shouldn’t use my abilities for that. Oh well.” It was weird hearing the Ash had these odd talents. Rett couldn’t help but blush a little knowing Ash touched his hand.
They finally pulled up to the apartment building where Asher lived. It was decent. Asher twirl his keys around his finger, “Something up?” Rett shook his head, “Just trying to compute all of this.” He looked at Asher before gazing down at the bandages. “Ya, I need to replace these…Let’s head up ok?” Rett nodded and followed Ash.
Slipping inside his apartment it was nothing like Rett expected. It was spick and span and organized. “Are you some type of closet neat freak?” Rett joked plopping himself in the couch. Shaking his head a chuckle escaped Ash, “No, I’m just careful about my stuff. Robbers would run the other way from me.”
“Why?” Asher reached inside of a desk and pulled out three throwing knives, “Cause of this.” He said throwing them across the room at a dartboard all three hit the bulls-eye. That was unbelievably accurate, Rett thought. “Amazing and really creepy.” Ash grinned before reaching into the fridge and pulling out two beers. “Here, sip on this while I swap the bandages out and shower.”
Rett felt the pang of guilt hit again, “w-wait.” He paused and turned back to Rett. “Yes?” “I’ll help you with your bandages, after you shower.” A smirk crept across Ash’s face. “Alright.” Rett definitely was not what he originally seemed.
Ash stripped down in his bedroom and went into the en-suite. Turning on the shower he leaned against the tile letting the water beat down on his back. It was definitely a long night, the warm water burned the gashes, but it still felt good.
Rett sighed getting up after he drank the whole beer down, walking over to the fridge he pulled out another Corona. The kitchen was all white and grey except the black counter top. The floor was a painted black finish. Ash’s couches were dark grey and much of the tables were glass. –Seriously, he owns all of this and he’s working at Freddy Fazbears Pizzaria. There must be a second job he’s got.-
He walked into the guest room, there was a bunch of books and cases all over the bed in there. Rett rummaged through the pages and books. It looks like he was writing some type of mystery/horror novel. –Well explains him not freaking that much about the animatronics. I mean he’s still gonna go back and work another night.-
Asher stepped out of the shower finally, he looked into the mirror and saw a little kid staring at him. He backed away and slammed himself against the wall. “What the HELL!!!! RETT!!” The little boy tilted his head and whispered, “Murderer.” “W-what? Murderer? What happened?” Asher watched the little boy put his finger to his lips. “Shuuush. I’m showing you a better place. It will be alright.” He said with a grin.
-What the hell is this? - Asher tried to open the door but it was locked. “REEETTT! Get me out of HERE!”
