Mary-Sue - The Ultimate Guide

Mary-Sue - The Ultimate Guide

Based on every advice ever given, I believe I have conjured the ultimate guide to follow when creating an OC for any fandom, as Mary-Sue's exist everywhere. (There is still more to come, so don't panic if there is something left out. That just means it will be in a future chapter coming soon.)

Canon Relation

To whoever said that blood relation makes your OC a Mary-Sue, may I ask...
What are you talking about?
Just because their OC is a sibling of a canon character, they're automatically a Mary-Sue?
What are you ON?

Okay, now that I got that out the way...
If you're wanting to make an OC that is related to a canon character by blood, let me tell you this. I want you to IGNORE what you see about it automatically being a Mary-Sue. This is not true. What IS true, however, is that for it to be accepted, it has to be logical canonically.
If it is stated in the canon biography of the character that they were born an only child, and you make your OC their sibling, then that is being ridiculous, and THAT is when your character is a Mary-Sue. Because, COME ON! Go read their bio again, you crazy fangirl! WAKE UP AND SEE THE WORLD OF LOGIC! God...
I'm sorry you had to see that. I get so angry when people just... do illogical things. It's insane. And I don't like it, okay?
Okay we're good.

Now, moving on to other types of relations. The biggest one being in a romance relationship.
Again, as long as it makes sense, it's fine.
But people still screw it up here. How?
Perfect relationships.
There is NO SUCH THING! You're bound to have an argument sooner or later. So, wtf? Are you seriously trying to tell me that you and your canon lover can manage a perfect relationship where there's no arguing whatsoever?
SOUND THE BULLSHIT ALARM!
This is complete and utter, ILLOGICAL! EVERY couple has arguments, every couple has a flaw, making them perfect like that is just...
What the hell, like seriously?

Another one I want to touch up on.
A canon character has a mother. An OC has a father. Or the other way round, you never know. The mother and the father are alone, meet up, fall in love, and marry. The OC and the canon are now step-siblings.
This isn't by blood. It's through a marriage. And this is okay. Let them have a sibling bond that isn't by blood. But what if the parents break up? What to do then?
Well, you just decide that, but I swear to God if you add a perfect relationship...

Question:

What if for appearence, they have some of those attributes but make those realistic?

Such as, for females, they have huge breasts but when fighting it's a disadvantage, or, in general, they DISPISE them?
reply
Big breasts can be natural, or through plastic surgery, which is realistic. And it would hold them back, yes.
I suppose I do need to talk about appearances more.

Yep. Mary-Sue's aren't fun. At all. But hey, having blood relations to a canon character i.e a sibling to Sasuke, doesn't necessarily mean your character is a Mary-Sue or Gary Stu either. There are some pretty good non-Mary sue stories where this occurs. But that's beside the point. Anyways, other Mary-Sue traits include....Having multiple love interests, a perfect See More
reply
True, but I will be separately talking about them too. I'm not resting until this guide is complete.

Fair enough~ :) (Long time no chat, by the way.)

lol ok so since I know your little message at the top was about me

I'm not on anything. its all a matter of opinion that you can't understand, that's why it was on the "unpopular OPINIONS" page

I just think having an of related to a canon character is cringy but here you are, freaking out again because maria wanted to get pissy about it

I'm pretty sure you weren't the first to say it, hence why I said it wasn't to you.
