Chapter Four
“Don’t do that.” Pow said to her sternly.“Why? We’re not going to serve a murderer.” Piv said,
“What other clients would we not serve?” Pow asked,
“Not murderers, not government officials, not drug dealers, not-“
“Don’t think I don’t know about the Heroin under your bed.” Her face dropped into a glare and she didn’t say anything.
“Gotcha,” Pow gloated.
“Shut up, we still don’t serve murderers.” Piv shot back at him. Fox could just stare at the people here talking about taking drugs as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“You have to stop.” Fox told Piv. She frowned and looked away.
“I don’t care.” She said and before he could say anything else she clapped her hand together and said, “So, what do we do until another client comes?” Pow shrugged,
“It can’t be long, many people here are in need of a few problems fixed.” Piv smiled,
“Then we’ll play 2 Truths one Lie.” Pow groaned,
“No! We are never playing 2 truths 1 lie ever again. As long as I live.”
“Come on Pow! Please can we play 2 truths one lie? I’m also 3 minutes older than you so you have to do what I say.” Fox shrugged,
“It’s only 3 minutes.” He interjected. Piv and Pow stared at him strangely. “What?” Fox asked,
“Those 3 minutes count if you’re a twin.”
“Yeah,” An awkward silence follows until Fox says,
“Okay! Let’s play 2 truths one lie. I’ll start.”
“YES!” Piv exclaimed as Pow groaned again.
“Okay…Um… I have an older sister.” Fox started. “I’ve never taken drugs.” Piv’s eyebrows raised as if she was saying ‘Really? You’re going to bring that up?’ But Fox continued. “I’ve never been bullied in my life.” He stared at the two twins and waited,
“I think you have been bullied. No offence, but you look like someone who’d get picked on.” Fox registered his guess and looked at Piv.
“You don’t have an older sister.” Fox nodded and pointed to Piv.
“How’d you know?” He asked,
“First mistake, you said it first. The lie is the hardest thing to think about so most people would think of that first. You also looked to the right, most people have this little tick. If you’re thinking about something, you look left and if you’re making something up, you look to the right. I like to think of it as the left and right brain thinking at different times.” Fox nodded silently to himself before clapping his hands and saying,
“Okay, Piv, it’s your turn.”
“No.” Pow says and crosses his arms, “She has way too elaborate truths and it’s near impossible to guess which one is a lie.” Piv smirked,
“You did guess it right once.”
“That’s because I chose the most believable. Anyway there’s always something more crazy about your life anyway.” Fox furrowed his eyebrows,
“Wait, wouldn’t you know about these things? You’re twins.” He asked, Piv nodded,
“We are, but we only met about 2 years ago. Before then we were basically on different sides of Monrania.” Pow agreed,
“Yeah, we haven’t told each other what we were doing there yet either.” There was a silence in the room.
“I won’t tell you and I won’t force you to tell me.” Pow nodded and stuck out his hand. They shook hands as there was a knock on the door.
“Come in.” Piv and Pow said together as Piv clicked the camera to start the video. A woman walked in. She had a stern face and was in a grey suit with a skirt and red high heels with a dragon on them.
“Hello Ma’am.” Pow said and Piv rolled her eyes at his goody-two-shoes behaviour.
“Hello, I trust you are the…” She pulled out one of our flyers “City. Kids.” She said, Piv and Pow nodded Fox just looked at the scene.
“Who’s this?” The woman asked and looked at Fox.
“He’s going to try and join us but he needs to figure out what we do for a case first.” Piv said before Pow could think of a stupid excuse that wasn’t needed. The woman gave a small nod of acknowledgement then took her briefcase and opened it.
“Let it be known that you two are highly responsible for many crimes.” She said, Piv slipped off of the bed and onto the floor. Fox noticed that she reached behind her to grab something.
“I’m sorry?” Pow asked,
“But however, it appears that I am not here to arrest you. I am here to appoint you.” She took out a picture and held it up.
“This,” She said, pointing at the man on the photo. “Is Iqweuevwiqj (ik-wev-wik-ju) Hardy.” Pow looked at Piv who was scribbling things down onto her notepad. Haakomia, 6’2”, around 30s, Normal IQ, skilled in battle, addicted to cocaine, drinks heavily.
“Do you know him?” The woman asked, Piv shook her head as she finished writing and looked back up at her.
“Go on, Mrs?”
“Mrs. Lara” She said and continued, “He has succeeded in taking very precious documents. These documents hold plans that are top secret. If he gets them to the right people, he would be able to do unspeakable things.”
“*cough* Launch a missile *cough*” Piv said, “Sorry, my throat’s dry.” She said as Mrs. Lara narrowed her eyes.
“Anyways, I’d like these documents back.”
“By you, do you mean your organisation?” Piv asked, to Piv’s surprise, Mrs. Lara smiled,
“Actually, Yes, it is for my organisation. If you say anything else like that,” She took out a gun and pointed it at Piv’s head. “Then you’ll be cleaning your smart-a** brains off the side of your bed.” Piv glared into her eyes but didn’t say anything.
“We’ve had word that Hardy is in an abandoned workhouse in the east side of Spaksar.” Piv opened her mouth but before she said anything, Mrs. Lara put the gun inside her mouth put her finger warningly on the trigger. Fox gasped slightly and Mrs. Lara looked at him.
“You find this uncomfortable? Scary? Threatening? Then maybe you shouldn’t be working with these criminals.” Mrs. Lara glared at Piv. Pow showed no sign of struggle. One thing that he had learnt from Piv was how to mask his feelings.
“Thank you for your time Mrs. Lara. I hope that we get the plans back quickly. Thank you.” Pow said and gestured towards the door. Mrs. Lara sickly smiled at Pow and took the gun out of Piv’s mouth. Closing the briefcase and walking out of the room.
