Chapter 9: The First Operation

**Jackie's POV*

The first plan has been made. Over the past few days, a few people have contributed to making special weapons for this plan. But I also have my doubts about this plan. For it all to go well would take a plan formed with intelligence, and preparation. It's thankful that we do have a few people with minds that possess intelligent quality. With any luck, the plan should work.
As we all suit up for the operation, I hear a knock at my door just as I'm loading my gun. "Jackie?"
It's a male's voice. I turn and look.
"Kyle."
"Hey. Heard you're leading this operation."
I giggle. "Obviously. I am the Queen, after all."
"Yeah, but... why are you really leading this?"
I'm not only leading this operation because I lead the Dauntless. I'm leading because if all goes to plan, we could rescue Sonic and Tails today.
"It..." I hesitate. Do I really want to tell him?
But if I don't tell him, how can I get it off my chest?
"It's because of my husband and my friend in there..."
"That's why you wanted the plan as soon as possible?"
I nod. "So they could be rescued at the earliest opportunity."
"That's actually a good idea."
"It is?"
"At least it isn't out of jealousy."
He's wrong. At first, it was. And now guilt punches me in the stomach. People could die today, and it will be because of my selfishness.
I have to do whatever it takes to prevent as many deaths as possible.

**Jorja's POV**

All the robots have been summoned back to the base. We are now armed, guarding every sector. Even those who were sent on assignments earlier have been called back. Myself included. We've not been told why, though. That's what I hate about these summonings. We're never told why.
I stand with Sapphire and Leat at the first entrance to the base, and it's then that we hear a noise.
The blaring sound of a train.
Occupied with Mobians.
Regular Mobians who haven't become robots.
Dressed in dark clothing.
I aim my gun, as they begin to jump out, in small groups.
After they all have jumped, they make way for a certain Mobian.
This one has pink fur, dark purple hair, and royal blue eyes.
Jackie?
What is she, of all people, doing among people like those?
I am the first to speak up. "LEavE Now IF yoU HavE No dESirE To jOIn uS."
"Hah, why would we want to join you?" Jackie replies.
"I ExpECteD NotHIng LEss FRom YOu, jACkiE," I say. "WE arE GivINg yOU onE LasT ChaNCe tO SubMIt yOUrsELf tO Us."
"I told you," she says. "I will never, ever, submit myself, or my people, to the likes of Eggman."
The people behind her raise their fists, punching the air, hooting and cheering.
I stare at Jackie. I should have seen this coming.
But very well. If she wants it done this way, I can play her game.
I step forward to face her. "MInd TEllINg mE Who YOur FRieNDs aRE?"
"These, are my people. We are the Dauntless, and we will be the ones to end this reign of terror."
