The Future of Mobius [Jackie's Story]

Prologue: I'll Miss You

Yet another threat has arrived for us from Eggman. Ever since I stayed a Mobian with Sonic, I have grown to hate him. Every threat, every plot, I cannot stand. Even his vicious cackles are unbearable, in which I sometimes wake from my sleep whenever I hear it.
When I enter the living area, I see Sonic, along with Tails and Knuckles. "What's going on?" I ask.
"We're stopping that plot," Sonic replies.
"Then I'm coming."
Tails shakes his head. "You need to stay here, Jackie," he says.
"What?" I look down in disappointment. "Why?"
Sonic turns to face Tails and Knuckles. "Guys, is it okay I have a private talk with Jackie?"
They nod, and leave the room. I am alone with Sonic.
"Jackie, I love you. You know I do," he says. "And if I could choose, then you could come."
I smile. "Then why can't I?"
"The others think it's too dangerous for you. I'd never forgive myself if you were captured, let alone killed." He looks at me with sadness marked on his face. "You understand, right?"
I nod. "Of course I-"
But I'm not able to finish my sentence. His lips cut me off. They press hard onto mine, and I am seduced by his passion. I press my hand to his chest as I return the kiss. The other arm, I wrap around his neck.
He pulls away, far enough for him to see my face, but still close enough so I can feel his breath on my fur. "I won't be gone long."
I lean in closer. "I'll miss you."
"So will I." He plants a final kiss onto my cheek, and I watch him run off with Tails and Knuckles to stop Eggman.
As I watch them fade smaller, I whisper to myself, "I always do miss you."
