Cairo

The weekend flew by quickly, and before I knew it, school had started again.

We went through the usual morning rush but something interesting happened today. It was during first period, History.

"Alright class, today we have a new student," Mrs. Smith said, "Cairo, why don't you introduce yourself to the class?"

A boy with messy blond hair stood up. He looked like he didn't want to stand up on front of the class, but he obeyed the teacher's command.

"My name is Cairo like Mrs. Smith said," Cairo grumbled.

"What's your last name dear?"

"I-I don't know," he said, looking hurt and angry for a second.

It was then I realized that he was wearing dirty clothes and his hair looked like it hadn't been brushed for months.

Mrs. Smith blushed.

"I see.......well sit back down!" she said.

When Cairo turned to sit back down, he looked at me then gasped in surprise.

I was confused, but continued listening to the teacher.

Great. Now we had this big project where you had to work with a partner.

I was assigned to work with Cairo. No complaints there!

When Cairo and I sat down near the back to discuss or plans, he looked at me with those ice-blue eyes again.

"What?" I asked, "Why do you keep on staring at me like that?"

"It's nothing," he said, "let's continue working on this project, or I'm going to get a C because of you!"

"Excuse me?"

I was angry.

Who did this guy think he was, bossing me around like that!

"For your information, Cairo, I am a straight A student," I glared at him with as much force as I could muster.

"With you constantly talking and asking questions, we'll never get anything done!" he snapped.

I opened my mouth to speak again, but quickly closed it. There was no point in having a fight.

"Fine then, but tomorrow, come over to my house so we can finish," I said.

"Fine," he replied.

Was that..........relief I saw in his eyes?

Oh well. One thing was for sure.

This new guy was very peculiar.
