"Aunt Claire, did mom have a sister?"

It was dinner.

Aunt Claire glanced up.

"Why do you ask?" she raised an eyebrow.

"Oh I don't know.......I'm just curious," I responded.

After all, I couldn't tell her that I'd torn apart our armchair and found a bunch of papers that very well may be the Singer's family history.

"Well, not that I know of," she shrugged, "by the way, I found our daisy-patterned armchair all battered and torn a few minutes ago. Do you know what happened?"

My eyes widened as I tried to think of a good story to cover up what I did.

"When I came downstairs this morning, I saw that the screen door was open," I said, " I quickly closed it when I noticed the armchair was ruined! It must have been a raccoon or something."

Aunt Claire nodded.

"Yes, we have big problems with raccoons around here," she muttered, " anyways, finish your dinner!"

I nodded, and put some more chicken into my mouth.

"Did you get any homework on Friday?"

I shook my head, not being able to speak because I had food in my mouth.

"Ah, well then you can rest," Aunt Claire smiled.

"Yeah," I swallowed my food.

We ate the rest of dinner in silence.

"Good night," Aunt Claire said, one we had cleaned the kitchen.

"Already?" I protested.

"Not you! Just me, I'm dead tired," Aunt Claire yawned.

She had been working all day, that was true.

"Alright, good night," I mumbled.

But inside I was dancing. More time to study the papers!
