A Week In the Life

Libby's Story

Ian's POV

(Libby!)

It all started in sixth grade, when I was in Chorus. I'd wanted Band so badly, but noo, I got stuck in Chorus. My voice was about as decent as a bullfrog's (as in not decent at all), and that was on a good day. Oh why? So when the teacher announced we were all going to sing a piece so she could evaluate our singing voice, I was beyond horrified. Beyond horrified.

Most of the other kids sang pretty badly though, and I was starting to feel better. Then it was Libby Collin's turn. Even back then, her hair was super-long and she had those beautiful ocean-colored eyes. When she started singing, I think the room froze. She had a clear, sweet voice that reverted around the room. I may or may not have wanted to cry and laugh and jump for joy during different parts of the song (don't judge).

When she finished, it took everyone a few seconds to come back down to Earth. Then we all started applauding like crazy, and someone even wolf-whistled. Libby was glowing...like an angel *sigh*.

Then Eva stood up. She had raven black hair and beetle-black eyes that made your hair stand up. Her eyes where narrowed, and there was so much lip gloss on her lips, she looked like she was bleeding.

"You think you sing so well," Eva sneered, her cold voice echoing around the room. "I've heard dying elephants make more pleasant noises than you. You should keep your mouth SHUT, for the sake of humanity and all our ears."

The room was so silent, you could of heard a pin drop. But all Libby did was sit there. She looked on the verge of tears, and I bet she was, but she didn't cry.

I was trying so hard. I wanted to say something, to shut Eva up, to shut that %&!@$ up, but what could I say? I just sat there, opening my mouth and closing it, like a fish out of water. Nobody noticed, except Eva, who sneered at me.

Then the room unfroze, and the teacher started yelling at Eva. But what was done was done. Libby Collins never sang in front of the world ever again. And I fell in love.
