A Week In the Life

Avery's POV

(Dawn)

I introduced Emma and Lexi to Skylar the next day, Thursday, and they became fast friends, much to my relief. I was a happy start to the day, but Aaron still clouded my mind.

Firmly, I told myself to just let it go for that day, and enjoy life. Aaron was NOT the most important person in the world!

I turned to talk to my best friends and wiped Aaron from my mind for the time.

By lunch, I was smiling. Forgetting about my crush was like shaking off a dead weight. I even survived Biology, smiling and talking to Aaron like everything was like it used to be.

By the end of the day, I was practically thriving. I felt free from the anxiety, the pressure of wondering if Aaron liked me. I decided those worries would be for Friday. Today I was having a great day.

I seemed, however, some people were not having very good days. Namely...Dawn.

Walking to the cafeteria, I heard a wisp of angry conversation, dictated by none other than Eva. Big surprise.

Unable to resist, I leaned on the wall in the shadows, listening and looking.

Eva, with her raven-black eyes blazing, was screaming her head off at a cowering Dawn. "You have to do it!" she screeched. "OR ELSE!"

"Please Eva, I...I can't!"

"YES YOU CAN! AND YOU WILL!" Eva flipped her hair. I was surprised the whole school didn't hear her-no-I was surprised the whole town didn't hear. Her other two cronies, sneered, then stalked off behind Eva, leaving Dawn with tears streaking down her face.

I checked for any sign of Eva, then stepped out of my hiding place, walking up to Dawn. "What did they do to you?" I asked, in a soft voice.

Dawn turned to me, startled. Her wavy brown hair was frazzled and her eyes desperate. But she turned away. "No! Just, please, go." With that, she ran off too.

I stood there in the courtyard, in shock, thinking that my problems with Aaron were pretty pathetic compared to what ever was happening to Dawn.
