Cut off

"I'm sorry but what happened to you basically just happened to us. We came here for help. But then we saw everything." I said a bit more suttle and secure.
I saw the confusion on everyone's faces. It was not very assuring but it was better than nothing. Our groups discussed what to do. We eliminated going to the next town as it was much further away, 89 miles away to be exact, and we had very weak people with us. We eliminated staying where we were considering something bad might happen if we stayed. We didn't know what to do.
We were cut off from the world. There was nothing we could do. We couldn't go anywhere and get help but we couldn't stay here and hope someone would find us. Eventually we decided to go to a nearby forest and camp out until all of us could regain our strength. This was a good idea. I mean you could hunt find water make fire and all the things we needed to stay alive. But right as we were about to leave for the forest a large booming voice came out of nowhere.
"Congratulations contestants 1, 8, 9, 7, 4, 6, 3, 12, 13, 18, 17, 19 and so forth. You have completed phase one of the trials. You may be confused right now, but I am your lifeline. This is a game, you all are in. All of you will die, except for two. This is a game of life or death. If you would ever like to live I suggest you..." He paused as if it was excruciatingly hard to say these words "work together."
Everyone burst out into chaos. "Silence!" He yelled "I expect you to act like civilized people not baboons! Now where was I. Oh yes, this is a game of knowledge and mind. There will be phases, riddles, and puzzles you must solve, on your own, if you would like to live. I would suggest working together but also working secondly. I am your lifeline. If you are truly lost, but truly want to live and ever be able to find your loved ones, I am the person to help you. You may use me once, but I am afraid it comes at a very high cost. If you use me, you survive the task you use it in. But if you fail the next task, after you used me a terrible fate will be end lifted on someone very close to you, maybe even you. I must warn you, this game is a high risk, many will die, two will live. If you would like to resign you may now, but only two of you will ever allowed to. Your group must decide." And with that the voice was gone.
