Just One Mistake

Just One Mistake

What if one mistake made you lose what you rely on most: your hearing? What if that mistake made you start fresh in a whole other state, with a new name and new look, at a whole new school? What if the relaxing voice of your mother was replaced by a constant ringing? What if one mistake broke your leg, took away your hearing, killed a friend, and injured two other friends? What if your strawberry blonde hair was turned black, your birth name changed to Edwin?

Seven - Nova?

"But a wolf in sheep's clothing is more than warning"

Chapter Seven - Nova?

*Neil POV*

I sat there, my mouth wide open, and my eyes large at what I was seeing. Was Parker Faye really hugging Edwin? Was that actually Shawn Hunter and Parker Faye? Was I really at the same place as two of the members of Supernova, and were they really hugging Edwin? I don't think I've ever been more confused in my life than I was just then. Feeling something brush against my hand, I realized I still had Edwin's notebook. This was perfect. I could go down there, pretend like I was only there to give Edwin her notebook, and actually get to talk to Parker Faye and Shawn Hunter.

I smiled, grabbing the notebook and running down the bleachers. I paused for a minute, writing "You forgot your notebook," on a blank page. I jumped slightly when I heard Edwin yell, "What are you doing here?" Her voice sounded so familiar it almost scared me. Where did I know that voice from?

I jogged over to Edwin, trying to hide the true excitement I was feeling at the moment. I tapped her shoulder, holding the notebook and pen out to her. She completely ignored me, storming away as quickly as she could on crutches.

"Well that went great," I heard someone grumble, and I smiled, looking over at Parker.

"I told you she wouldn't be happy," I heard Shawn say, sounding bored.

"Yeah," I quietly said, "She's not too sociable," Both of their heads turned, and they just kind of stared at me.

Eventually, Parker smiled, holding her hand out to me. "I'm assuming you're Neil. I'm Parker, and this is Shawn." Shawn smiled, sending me a small wave.

"You don't have to introduce yourselves," I rubbed the back of my neck, "Practically anyone under the age of fifty knows who you guys are. I really like your music, by the way."

Parker's expression quickly changed to something unreadable as she said, "We're not the ones you should be telling that to. Your friend there is the only reason we were formed." I raised my eyebrows, genuinely confused. Who was she talking about? Was she saying Edwin was who I thought she was? I knew that voice sounded familiar . . .

"Great job, Parker," Shawn elbowed Parker, turning towards her, "Nova already told you like a million times she didn't want to people to know."

"It's not my fault!" Parker exclaimed, waving her arms around, "She deserves credit for what she did, okay? I don't care if she doesn't want people to know! They deserve to know!"

I looked down at the notebook in my hand, smiling. "Look, can you just give this to Ed-" I stopped myself, sighing, "Nova? Can you give this Nova?" I held the notebook out to Shawn, turning around when he took the notebook and pen.

"Wait," I felt someone's hand land on my shoulder, and I turned around, "What's in this?"

"I have no idea," I shrugged, turning back around, "I think there's a song or something in there."

*Parker POV*

"This is perfect, Shawn!" I was practically jumping up and down at that point. "If there really is a song in here, that means she still cares. If she still cares, we could probably convince her to come back."

"You realize that she's deaf, right?" Shawn retorted, flipping through the notebook, "Or have you not noticed the fact that she can't hear anything anymore?"

"Losing your hearing doesn't affect your voice," I smiled, gabbing Shawn by the shoulders, "That means that she can still sing amazingly. And thanks to the notebook, we know she still cares about music. This is perfect!"

"Whatever you say," Shawn turned towards the exit of the field, tossing the notebook at me, "Let's just go back to David's dorm."

(Really, really well written. It's amazing. I like the way it moves smoothly from the past to the present. You should publish this and become famous :P)

Thanks! I'd have to do a lot of editing and lengthen the chapters quite a bit to be able to publish it, though.
