Danger
As Sapphire, Lili and Wave left the campsite, Sapphire wondered if she had just made a big mistake. In every scary movie she has ever watched, this is exactly what the characters did, spilt up, and then the killer picked them off one by one."Amy?" Wave rasped as they walked into the dense woods. "Blaze?"
And then the killer starts following them through the woods. They're easy to track because they make so much noise.
"Amy, we're sorry!" Lili whispered. "Oh, why did we sing so much? I can barely talk!"
"Hey, look at this," Tori said. She shone her flashlight on the bent back branches of a spindly bush.
"No. Way." Wave said excitedly. She looked down the map. "They must have made this path."
"When?" Lili asked. "They never left the campsite..."
"Ugh..." Wave shrugged. "How else would it be here? Plus, there's a mark on the map exactly here."
"There's a few more up ahead. I guess we should try to find them too?" The three moved forward, each girl stepping cautiously through the fog.
"Yesss!" Wave cried out. "The path leads this way! Amy! We know you're out here!"
"Amy!" Sapphire yelled. "Blaze!" They stopped to listen.
"We're too hoarse." Wave whispered. So was everyone back at camp. In the woods, no one can hear you scream.
They walked a little more, Wave first. Lili just a little way behind her, Sapphire fell back a little when she skirted around a fallen tree trunk. Without warning, the ground angled sharply downward, and it was covered in pinecones and wet leaves making it as slippery as a water slide. As Wave's sneakers began to scoot out underneath her, Lili caught her forearm. Then, she, too, lost her balance and the two fell onto their butts. They started zooming down the incline.
"Help!" Wave cried. They disappeared down the thick black fog. Sapphire could hear them sliding, but could see them at all. She took a step forward to peer further...before she also fell too.
"Whoa!" Sapphire croaked now also sliding too. "Guys! Guys! Look out!" She yelled. Instinctively she rolled to the side so she would avoid hurtling into her friends, but the ground dropped away beneath her and she sailed into thin air before thumping hard onto the ground.
"Sapphire! Are you okay?" Wave whispered from somewhere above.
"Ow." Sapphire replied. "I'm fine!" She heard someone shuffling behind her. It had to be Lili. Lucky the didn't land on top of each other. Sapphire turned around but the fog was too thick to see her. She heard panting.
"I can't see you, Sapph." Wave called. "Lili can you see her?" Wait. Lili?
"No..." Lili replied from somewhere above.
"Amy? Electra?" Sapphire called into the fog scooting backwards on her butt. "Is this a prank? Can you guys see me now?"
"No..."
"I don't think i'm alone guys..."
"What?"
"Listen..." The panting was loud in the silence. Somethinging poked Sapphire's shoulder. Sapphire screamed as she jumped up.
"Help! Help!"
"Sapphire? What's wrong? What's happening?" Wave called. Strong fingers coiled around Sapphire's arm.
"It's me! Lili! i've got you! Wave, help me pull her up!" Hand over hand, they pulled Sapphire up. She couldn't see either of them. She fought to catch her breath.
"Someone's down there!" She panted. "We need to go back to camp!" Sapphire tugged on Lili's hand and grabbed Wave's before running blindly through the fog.
"Don't stop!" Lili begged. Heavy footfalls galloped behind them. It had climbed up the slope! It was coming after them!
"It's chasing us!" Wave squealed. The someone-something- howled. It was high pitch and angry and it followed them as they ran. It was a crazy shriek. A wild scream.
"It's Cropsy!" Sapphire screamed. Squealing in terror, the three friends raced on.
