Brave or Stupid?
There were seven campers left; Trinty, Wave, Red, Sapphire, Lilli, Jackie, Victoria and Yamilette."Should I break out some magazines?" Lilli asked.
"Pass." Red said. "Anyone want a marshmellow?"
"Pass." Sapphire groaned. "I have eaten way too much already." She leaned back holding her stomach. Trinity squinted at the fog as it cloaked the lake. Was there a dark blotch in the middle of it? A boat shaped blotch?
"Guys?" She got up and craned her neck. "Do you see anything strange out there?"
"What?" Red stood and walked boldly towards the water. Apart from Trinty, the other girls walked to where Red was.
"It's just fog." Wave said after a beat. "So? No big deal."
"Spooky fog." Jackie remarked. They were quiet for a moment listening to the fire popping and crackling.
"Hey, I see it!" Lilli announced. "What do you think it is?"
"Cropsy's boat!" Red joked.
"He didn't have a boat." Wave scoffed. "Randy had a boat."
"It doesn't look like a boat to me." Jackie tilted her head. "Maybe a rock?"
"Are there any big rocks in Qfeast lake? I don't think there are." Lilli pointed at the shape.
"Nightmare fuel!" Yamilette sang. She came over to Trinty and sat down. "I feel like we're in a scary movie!" She said. Trinty frowned as no one denied this. Lilli, Jackie and Victoria headed back to the campfire too.
"It's okay." Lilli whispered to Trinty. "They'll be back soon." Sapphire, Red and Wave stayed on the ledge of the lake, staring at the boatlike shadow on Qfeast Lake.
"Trust our bunk to have a night like this." Wave grumbled. She was tired with all the drama and freakiness with the creepy fog, the strange boat thing on the lake, the something creeping just off to the right rustling in the bushes...wait, what? She quickly turned her head and squinted in the direction of the rustling/
"What is it?" Sapphire asked her.
"Amy?" Wave called. Her voice was hoarse, just like everyone else's. They were all still croaking from the campfire singing. "Is that you?" There was no answer. The noise grew lower and a little closer.
"Do you guys hear that?" Wave asked.
"It's probably just a little animal, like a possum," Lilli said. "Or a bird."
"It sounds like footsteps," Wave insisted.
"It does not! It sounds like an animal," Lilli argued, but the quaver in her voice betrayed her uncertainty. She then raised her voice. "Amy? Blaze? Rouge?" The creepy noise stopped.
"You heard THAT right?" Wave asked.
"Hello?" Lilli called, her voice scratchy. "Anyone there?" Nothing. No one spoke for a moment. Sapphire cupped her hands around her mouth and faced the thick, dark woods.
"Amy! We're sorry! Come back!" Her voice registered barely above a whisper. They all started to screech, hoarsely.
"Blaze!"
"Rouge!"
"Maria! Electra! Amy!" Wave thought of how pale Blaze must look out there in the forest and had a crazy moment where she thought: Blaze wasn't really a vampire, was she? But she knew she was just thinking like that to scare herself...right?
The friends had decided to search around everyone's tents for flashlights and anything helpful.
"Did you guys find anything?" Sapphire asked coming from around the back of her tent.
"Flashlights." Wave said.
"And the Scavenger Hunt notes..." Lilli mentioned. Silence. "Could..." Lilli coughed. "Could this be part of the hunt?"
"What?" Trinty questioned.
"Well, there's only one way to find out." Red spoke nodding to the notes. Yamilette picked up the notes and peered at the pages.
"It's...just a map."
"They planned the whole thing!" Sapphire cheered and sat back. "Sneaky."
"Guys, think about it." Victoria sighed. "They wouldnt make us look for them in the middle of the night. It's not right."
"But look." Wave said pointing to the upside down V shap on the map. "That's our campsite! And looks, there's a big X...exactly where they ran off to." Everyone looked towards the forest again.
"Enough is enough." Wave grunted picking up the map. "I'm going in to see if I can find them."
"Wave no." Red frowned. "Rouge told us to stay here."
"Every time someone leaves they don't come back." Trinty shivered.
"I'm going!" Wave took a flashlight and flicked it on.
"You can't go alone," Sapphire announced. She flashed Wave a smile and picked up another flashlight. Lilli nodded and she stood up putting an arm around Sapphire.
"You guys are not going anywhere without me." Wave looked at Lilli and Sapphire surprised they volunteered to with her. She thought they didn't like her.
"Don't go you guys." Yamilette insisted. Wave tried to sound light-hearted as she said, "Well, it's a little late now. Coming ladies?"
