How to Create a Good Warriors OC

The Personality! History Too.

➟ You can go wild! No problem, but when having the -heart, -cloud or -storm suffix, the personality has to match the suffix guidelines. You probably read all about it on the blog I suggested to find a good name. Just make sure it all goes together, you can't have an outspoken reserved cat! I'm sure you'll ace the personality by avoiding these things:

➟ Loyal/Feisty. Every warrior needs to be loyal, don't have it as a 'special mention' personality trait, it's required in every Clan. The warriors not loyal; they get kicked out or disliked for being a backstabber. As for feisty, in the series it's used for rather one-dimensional females. "Feisty" ranges from fierce and overly-bratty to simply having an opinion in the books, not a super great image.

➟ The Gruff and Rude but Secretly Will Die for Others Cliché.
There's this tom, and he's super mean and totally hates everyone. It's like an emo cat, and always a 'he'.  He loves two specific cats, always his love interest and female sibling. Let's look that over. A brash, rather grumpy cat is okay. But this? How come he's still in the Clan when he insults everyone in his way and only cares for the two females mentioned above? How come no cat is affected by him calling them thrash, right? So avoid that kind of personality.

➟ Ambition. When you hear that you have a tyrant like Tigerstar in mind, don't you? I'll just quote a traditional namer on this.
Ambition isn’t evil. Ambition is just the desire to succeed at something. Ambition is a really good trait to have, especially in your warriors - from a leader’s point of view, at least. You want your cats to strive to be the best they possibly can. The only time ambition becomes a problem is when it’s entirely unrestrained and when that ambition is directed in a negative way.

➟ The Cliché Medicine Cat aka The Hello Nurse
This molly, yes, always a molly, is quiet, loving, patient, apparently very intelligent, doesn't like fighting at all and thinks it's stupid, has always wanted to be a medicine cat and nine times out of ten spends half her time wistfully sighing about not being able to have kits because she adores them, and is very perceptive to prophecies but is somehow always unable to tell exactly what they mean. Okay, that's a really boring character. Wouldn't an old, ugly and brash medicine cat be much more interesting to write about? And how all the queens don't like the surly medicine cat tom who keeps scaring their kits? That's plenty of fun to type up, I assure you.

➟ History with Hints of Personality.
There are a few things you should avoid in making your cat's history:

➟ First-time queen who turned meek, loving and motherly after having her kittens. Personality doesn't change when you have kids, and animal mothers are vicious barbaric creatures! Walk to close to a baby animal and get ready to be mowed down by the mother.

➟ Cat who lost a loved one and now they hate everyone. Death happens in Clans, and many loved ones are lost in battle. Don't rename your heartbroken kitty Brokenheart, it's just mean, and your character can't cling on the death of a loved one forever. They have their own life in the world of the living, and in their case, a busy Clan to hunt and fight for. Cats loose family in the Clan all the time. Sure, I'm not saying to shrug it off and forget right away, but don't turn your cat emo right away.

➟ Loner who got accepted into a Clan as a kitten dropped on the border by a mother who wanted to 'protect' them or just a loner generally accepted into a Clan. That just happened too much in the series, and by the end of Omen of the Stars there was hardly a pure Clan cat in ThunderClan. The last thing a Clan needs is an extra mouth to feed, especially a moth that mightn't respect their beliefs and traditions. Most other cats would also be scared off by terrible tales of bloodthirsty forest monsters, aka the Clan cats.

➟ Bullied by others and now they hate everybody. This cat usually leaves the Clan at some point. Look, the Clan works like a community, everyone is fed, even the cats that can't hunt, cranky elders are seen to, and queens will watch each other's kits. They live like a huge family, and if you character was turned cold by bullying in the past, why were they bullied in the first place? Being a runt? Small cats can fight or hunt as well as big ones and there's bound to be a small but skilled warrior in the Clan. They have loner or kittypet blood? Look the kits grew up with each other, they're friends. Something else? Why doesn't a warrior sort it out? Don't have pointless bullying as majority of you cat's history.

➟ All you need to do is avoid the above clichés and you're just fine! I would also like to add that a history shouldn't be longer than a personality, surely the cats don't have that much significant events in their life. It's also always useful to somehow connect the personality to a cat's skill. My Troutnose is very proud and doesn't like change. She is good at tracking. What do I get? This: She finds it upsetting when a plant was there yesterday, but is not there today. She also beings to get nervous and doubts her skills when she smells something new or foreign.
