New beginnings.

I sat alone in the cabin reading a borrowed history book from the Athena cabin. I wasn't really that interested, but I needed something to do. People hadn't come back from capture the flag yet, so I was alone. I heard a knock at the door. I jumped off of the top bunk and walked to the door. I opened it.
"Hey, Mia. Sorry about earl-" I slammed the door. It was Hunter Hills. That stupid player. He was so smug and he thought he could get all of the girls. I hated him for the way he was.
He knocked again. I reluctantly opened it.
"What?" I asked sternly.
"I'm sorry about earlier," he said.
"Well, you should be."
I noticed he had an ice pack on his cheek. We stood there awkwardly until he broke the silence.
"Can I come in and talk?" he asked. I pondered this. Should I let a smug, player come in and talk to me and possibly hit on me again? No. Did I? Yes.

He sat on the bottom bunk next to me. I stared at him. He made me uncomfortable, the way he was. He could probably tell too, since I was awful at keeping my feeling out of my facial expressions. He proceeded to sit on the ground.
"So," he began. "We got off to a terrible start. Let me begin, Hi, my name's Hunter Hills, son of William Hills and Demeter. I'm 16 years old. I'm from Arkansas, and I have one half sister named Daisy," he told me. "Your turn."
"Okay. My name is Mia Dean, daughter of Adriene Dean and Hephaestus. I'm 168 years old, but I use this amazing face cleanser that makes me look like I'm fourteen. I'm from a small town in New York. I am an only child, and I'm a part of the Hunt, which I joined at age fourteen," I said.
He giggled a bit at the cleanser joke.
We went on for about 30 minutes asking each other random questions like, "What is your favorite color?" (his was olive, since he always admired the Athena kids) or "What is your favorite food" (his was lasagna, since it reminded him of home). We really got to know each other. I knew this was the side of him that not many people knew. This was the real Hunter Hills. We were interrupted by Vivian, another hunter, walked into the cabin.
"Hey Viv," I said. She looked at me and Hunter. "No, no, it's not what you think. He was apologizing to me for flirting with me."
She nodded, clearly not convinced.
"She's telling the truth. But I think I should get going," Hunter said. "Bye Mia."
"Bye," I replied. I was a little sad to see him go. We actually had fun together, just talking, and learning about each other.
"They're having a push-up contest outside, and Evie's in it. Want to see?" she asked. I forgot she was still in the room.
"Oh yeah, sure," I answered. I got up and we went outside and walked together.
"Don't fall for him," she whispered. "You're a Hunter, remember that."
"I'm not, we're just friends," I confirmed.
"That's what they all say," Viv whispered. She then sped up to join the crowd.

Was I falling for him and his boyish charm? No way, I couldn't. But I knew in some way, shape, or form, I was lying to myself.
