Snow
“Revery”, I said as I carefully stood up, laughing a little. This cannot be real, can it? Here I am talking to an actual 'living' skeleton. Then, he throws puns at me like it's no skin off his back.Sans looked past me for a second before turning his attention back to me.
“hey, wanna do me a favor? go through this gate thingy, yeah go right through it. my brother made the bars too wide to stop anyone.”
Snapping out of my thoughts at the skeleton's words, I glanced at the said gate. Sure enough, anyone could easily walk through.
Why not play along for now?
So, I complied and went through the gate and walked until we were in front of a sentry station. A moment later a rather tall skeleton in a red scarf walked into view. I looked to Sans, as if asking what to do, he just closed his eyes and shrugged.
He opened them, “heya paps, any luck finding a human today?”
The taller skeleton stopped short at this, “BROTHER, YOU SHOULD BE THE ONE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR A HUMAN. AS FOR I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS HAVE BEEN BUSY RECALIBRATING MY PUZZLES!”
Wow, he was loud; and a little amusing.
“yeah, I have snow idea where to find one.”
Papyrus stood there for a moment taking in what his brother just said. He groaned in frustration, “HAVE YOU GOT ANY WORK DONE TODAY SANS?”
“yeah, I got a ton of work done today...a skele-ton.”
“OH MY GOD SANS!”
“i've worked myself down to the bone.”
“SANS!”
“do you have a bone to pick with me?”
“YOU'RE A REAL BONEHEAD YOU KNOW THAT?!”
“...heh”
Papyrus face-palmed and groaned again, while Sans was snickering to himself. Sure enough, I found myself fighting to hold back my laughter. Sans walked over to his brother patted his back. I stood there shivering from the unforgiving cold next to a odd shaped lamp; it was also a odd place to have one as well. The taller brother bent down to Sans' level and whispered loudly, “SANS, Is THAT A HUMAN?”
“nah bro, that's a lamp.”
Papyrus looked sad for a moment, “OH...”
“what's that beside the lamp?”
“OH MY GOD!”then he 'whispered again, “IS THAT A HUMAN?”
“yes”
“OH MY GOD!” he was practically beaming. “NYEH HEH HEH! BE PREPARED TO BE JAPED HUMAN!”
I was trying hard not to laugh at this, they were very entertaining. As this was stated we progress through the forest, puzzle after puzzle; japes and shocks, snowmen and frozen food. There were little white dogs following us around, some even wearing armor. Papyrus told me that he wanted part of the Royal Guard, something that he was working very hard to become a part of. Sans kept saying how cool his 'bro' was, and of course Papyrus agreed.
Then, Papyrus being talking about capturing me and something about this Undyne person. Whoever they were, they sounded like they all were very close...but why take be to this Undyne and not the King himself? After walking across a very sketchy rope bridge, Papyrus confronted me; his expression full of determination.
“I WILL BE THE ONE! I MUST BE THE ONE! I WILL CAPTURE THE HUMAN!”
“you can do it paps.”
Wait, as in... capture me now? And then what? I wasn't sure if I really wanted to find out. So, I began to slowly pace around the two brothers and they soon caught on to what I was trying to do.
“NYEH? NOT SO FAST HUMAN!”
I bit panicked, I need something to distract him. So, my first thought led me to pick up a wad of snow and let it fly towards Papyrus. It splattered on his chest-plate and he stopped; almost shocked which turned into a playful grin. And this is how we started a snow ball fight.
“NYEH HEH HEH!” then another snowball was launched towards me as I barely dodged it. Sans was simply sitting on the side lines watching the snowball fight take place. Papyrus have given up on all the puzzles, since they had no class at all; he said. I gathered up a ball of snow and threw it at Papyrus, only to graze over his head. Now, he was even more deterred to land a hit. After, taking several snow balls to the back, I surrendered.
Papyrus posed triumphantly, “NYEH! I THE GREAT PAPYRUS IS THE SNOW BALL FIGHT MASTER!”
Sans said that being the master of snow fights made his brother the coolest; which caused Papyrus to become flustered. They both bid their goodbyes as they headed homeward.
After so much running around, I almost forgot how cold it was. My breaths created little clouds in front of me; and as if on cue, a shiver tingled through my body. I felt for my cell phone, out of habit and found it absent. Where is it? I searched all my pockets and backpack even though I knew it wasn't there.
Great, now I must back track.
Again, I crossed the wooden bridge that swayed a little in the crisp wind. As my feet met solid ground, a familiar voice chirped at me.
“Lose something?”
