Stone Soup Advice Stories by MysticMedevalSamuraiPrincess

"Kaitlyn woke up on the morning before a big test at school. She was feeling very sick.
“Mom!” she wailed. “I have a headache, sores in my mouth, and I feel sick to my stomach. Do I have the flu?”
Kaitlyn’s mom took Kaitlyn’s temperature. It was 99º. “No, you do not have a temperature, so you don’t have the flu. But you do need to stay home from school today.”
Kaitlyn stayed home from school that day. By the end of the day, she was worried about her test the next day. “I’m so nervous!” cried Kaitlyn. “What if I’m still sick tomorrow?”
Kaitlyn’s mom had an idea. They took Kaitlyn to the doctor and the doctor examined Kaitlyn’s symptoms. “Hm…” he murmured at last. “You don’t seem to have the flu, a fever, a cold, or even be sick at all. It’s just stress. Your body was so anxious for the exam tomorrow that you began having physical symptoms. It can happen sometimes.  I recommend you get a lot of rest tonight, eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow, drink lots of water, and try some breathing exercises to help your anxiety.”
Kaitlyn went home and practiced breathing deeply. She also imagined her worries floating away in a hot-air balloon. Then, she went to bed half an hour earlier than usual. When she woke up, she had fruits and vegetables and protein for breakfast. She got to school on time and took her test.
That day when she got home, she was smiling. “Mom!” she said. “I didn’t feel sick at all today! And I think I did a pretty good job on the test!”
So, dear reader, the moral of this story is: If you feel sick but don’t know why, see if you have any important events coming up that might be stressful. They could be causing your anxiety, which sometimes makes physical symptoms. Try some breathing exercises, get a good sleep, exercise, relax, imagine your worries flying away and never coming back, and eat healthily. These will hopefully make you feel better and lower your stress level. If they don’t work, talk to a doctor or parent and ask them what some good ideas are.
