Chapter Two
The next day, I woke up earlier than Sapphire did, this was usual but I had woken up earlier than usual. I went downstairs and started to make breakfast. The stars last night confused me. There was definitely something written in them. I just can’t make out what it was. I will find out though! I promised myself that I will. I realized that I was staring at the frying pan, as if it would cook the eggs I had placed in it by itself. I turned on the gas and started cooking the eggs.About five minutes later, the eggs were cooked. As I moved the eggs from the frying pan to the plate, I heard Sapphire come downstairs, moaning that it was too early to be eating. I giggled as I heard her; Sapphire never was a morning person and I don’t think that she ever will be.
“How can you be eating at like seven O’clock in the morning? It’s too early…” Sapphire plopped herself down into the chair opposite me.
“I was up at five…” I wasn’t really, I was up at four in the morning, watching the sun rise. I had two more hours before I had to go to work and I wasn’t really feeling like going. But I had to go otherwise I would get fired and then I would be in an even worse situation than I am now.
“Five?! Girl, you need to sleep more. It’s not good for your body. Especially when you have work!” Sapphire wasn’t working. She had the grades but no one was employing her for some strange reason. She was an amazing girl. She was so kind and caring. Always looking out for her friends.
I ate my breakfast and then ran upstairs to go and get dressed. What to wear today? I had to wear smart, but also casual clothes since I work in a coffee shop just down the road. In the end, I picked out a dark blue top and some smart trousers. I got dressed slowly, the stars still on the forefront of my mind. I was going to leave for work early so that I can take my time and think about last night.
After walking downstairs and saying goodbye to the girl who felt like my sister, I grabbed my name badge and keys and walked out of the front door, shutting it behind me. I smiled. The birds were singing, the trees where whispering to one another, people were walking their dogs and the sun was shining brightly, but not as brightly as the stars were last night. And then he walked past, someone I had met before; my neighbor. I’ll admit it, I had a slight crush on him. He was hot. He works out in the gym and regularly wears tight tops and skinny jeans. His name was Surge.
We had spoken before and talked about our interests. He loved the night just as much as I do, maybe even just a little bit more. He loved how mysterious and how calm the night was. The night helped him to relax after a busy day and would usually take strolls in the cool evening air.
This reminded me of the stars that I saw last night. How bright and brilliant they were. But at the same time, soft and gentle. I was awoken from my daydream as I walked into a lamppost quite close to my place of work. I checked the time to see how long I had before my shift started and the time read “8:59” One minute before work started. I cursed under my breath and ran towards my destination.
