Chapter Three
During the whole of work, I couldn’t take my mind off Surge and the stars. Customers were telling me that I wasn’t more vacant than usual and where asking me if there was something wrong. Of course, I was telling them that I was fine and that I just had a bad night. No more questions were asked after that.I was on my break when Surge came into the coffee shop and asked a member of staff if I was there, I was immediately grabbed by the arm of one of my colleagues, Hikari, and dragged into the coffee shop. The minute my eyes fell on Surge, my mouth was agape.
“Hey. I saw you walking here today and you looked distant. You okay?” This was the first thing he said after sitting me down in a chair and buying me a hot chocolate. He looked so concerned and worried about me. His gentle gaze was upon me all the time and I could see the worry in his eyes.
“Yeah… I’m fine. I was just thinking about something that’s all” I took a gentle sip of hot chocolate just to try and hide the blush that was starting to appear on my cheeks.
“Want to share? I have all day to talk about it.”
“I was thinking about the stars… There’s something written in them, I know that. I was just trying to figure out what it read” And I was thinking about you and how—
“I get that too sometimes. You think they are saying something to you, but you can never make out what. They are such pretty things stars are”
The conversation carried on about stars until my break ended and when I was back at work, I could not concentrate. The guy that I had a crush on, asked me if I wanted to have a walk with him tonight at midnight. Obviously, I said yes because it would mean being with Surge and watching the stars that I love go by, just minding their own business.
An hour later and I was walking home, when I suddenly got a call from my boss. My boss Usagi was a very kind woman and looked after her employees well. It turns out that I was daydreaming too much at work and that I was now fired. Great. Now I won’t be able to pay the rent and Sapphire and I are going to be kicked out.
On the verge of tears, I scrolled through my contacts until I found Surge’s number. I took a deep breath and then pressed dial. He picked up almost immediately.
“Hey, What’s up Maria?” His soft gentle voice rang through my ears and I burst out into tears.
“I need to talk to you…”
