the Price of Life

the Price of Life

This is a story about two sisters. Their names are Hi and Yoru. Day and Night. They are stuck in a wilderness, trying to find civilization, only to find they are trapped in an alternate dimension. There are small groups of others who have been drugged and brought here to that place, called Htrae, as punishment for crimes unknown, and all they have are their matching lockets, given to them by their kidnapped father. The last thing you expect when you clicked and started reading is that they're shape shifters.

People

People      It was two months since we got here. I think. Hi lost track. We've been exploring around, but neither of us have gone to the Shadow Place. I saw smoke a ways off, it was a smoke signal in Morse Code. "If you see this and you understand it, come find us." That meant that there were more people, we could live together and survive until we got out of this wretched place.
"Let's go! we should get there before sundown." Hi and I were crows, flying to the camp we concluded was there. Hi quickly changed into a falcon, I followed suit. we neared the camp. There was a rough wall made of rocks and branches. They were sending out the smoke signals again. Instead of Northern European-like greenery that we had gotten used to, it was more Asian here. There were cherry tree like bushes from place to place, we supposed they bore edible fruit. Just then I noticed a man in a tower with some sort of weapon yelling and pointing at us. "Hi, get down!" I screeched. We dove down in unison, changed into wolves, and ran into the forest without thought of them seeing us.
