PainChapter 5: What now?
“Scarlett? Do you realize how late it is?”
“I’m sorry. My grana kicked me out.”
“You’re ok, right.”
“Yeah, I’m fine, did a couple things that I regret though.”
“Aww, well you’re welcome to come stay at my place for the time being.”
“Thanks! I’ll be over in a bit. I hope I won’t be too much.”
“Oh NO! I’m sure my mom would love you over! it’s pretty boring here being an only child ya know? “
“Ok Jess, I’ll be over in a bit. Kisses Boo!”
“Kisses!”
After calling Jessica, I pulled off the driveway in my car. Leaving behind what’s left of my family.
After about 30 minutes of driving I pulled up to Jessica’s amazing house. It’s a nice 2 story Columbian with a pool. Jessica and her family are Puerto Rican so that’s why they’re so beautiful.
“OMG SCARLETT YOU MADE IT I WAS SO FRICKEN BORED” Jess screamed when she reached the door. Then she got a good look at me and said: “why for the love of all things holy on God’s green earth are you in a prom dress?!”
“Jessica, remember you told me all the clothes she had left is that dress. Surely you haven’t forgotten that already. But Scarlett, You are more than welcome to stay here. We’re glad to have you. I’m sorry for your loss. Your mother and I were great friends. I got her and your dad together after all. Though I must ask: what chain of events brought this on? But if you aren’t in the mood to share that’s fine.” Mrs. Aguilera cut in.
“Oh, no Mrs. AG! Its fine, she just needed some time alone to grieve. And I’m a bit sleepy so I think I’m going to crash. Hey Jess can you show me to my room?”
“Yeah,” Jess answered excitedly, “it would be like a sleepover every day! I can’t wait to tell the girls!!!”
With that, we walked up a winding staircase into the room I would stay in.
“ok, I don’t know if it’s the lack of sleep speaking, but I DO NOT see a hot tub, do I?” I asked after looking at the extravagant room before me.
PAUSE: now that I have your attention; Jess and her family are extremely rich because her dad is a famous lawyer. Jess’s mom is named Alicia Aguilera, and her dad is Ricardo Aguilera. J
PLAY: “yup, it’s a hot tub,” Jess answered, “Make yourself comfy in here. Tomorrow we’ll go shopping with Brit, ‘kay? Love ya Scarlett. Sorry about your loss. Keep fighting, boo! Sweet dreams!”
My sleep was the best I ever had since before my family’s death.
I woke up 10 hours later to the smell of pancakes and bacon. Drawn like a moth to light, I walked downstairs to the kitchen to get some food. After weeks of that nasty hospital food, I was totally ready for the tasty food from Alicia Aguilera.
“Well look at who is finally up,” the sing song voice of Mrs. Aguilera rang out as she saw me. “It’s Cinderella!”
I had to laugh at that.
“Mrs. AG-“, I started but was interrupted.
“Please Scarlett, call me Alicia. After you eat you can wear some of Jessica’s clothes and you girls can go shopping. Now eat up!”
“Thanks Mrs. - I mean Alicia. Wow this is hard! But your cooking is absolutely amazing!”
“Aww, thanks baby! And I hate to bring this on you; but are you ever going to host a funeral for your family? It’s been two weeks!” Alicia said with worry evident in her voice.
“Well grana said no funeral because she doesn’t believe in them. I really wanted one but it’s too late because they’ve been buried.” I said, not wanting the tears to fall.
“Oh, baby, come here. Everything that happens is for a reason child,” Alicia pulled me to her as I sobbed. “Do you really think it was luck that pulled you out of that car unscathed? No! By the grace of God you were saved. I know you’re not the most religious person, but you have got to find God. He will heal and help you through your problems. Now eat up, and I’ll take you to church with the family next week.”
“Thanks Alicia! I’ll remember to think on your words! But I don’t think I’m ready for the questions at school yet. Is there any way I can stay home tomorrow?” I asked Alicia as I sat down at the table.
“Honey,” Alicia said as she buttered my pancakes, “if you’re not ready today, then you definitely won’t be tomorrow. You’ll be fine. I’ll be sure to call in to let the school know not to ask too many questions. Go ahead and eat up, these next couple days will be hard but I know you’re stronger than that.”
“No need to tell me twice” I said as I dug in to the delicacy known as Alicia’s cooking.
After finishing my food, Jessica ran into the kitchen and grabbed my arm.
“TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH! GOSH! HURRY UP SO WE CAN GOOOOO!!!! BRITNEY’S ALREADY THERE!”
“OK GOSH DARN IT LET ME BREATHE WOMAN!” I said as I got up.
Alicia laughed “Well you girls go out and have fun. I’m going to invite my friends over for our book club. BE HOME BY ELEVEN!” she barely got that last part out as Jess and I rushed upstairs.
“Here Scarlett, you should totes wear this!” Jess said as she handed me an outfit.
The outfit was a white crop shirt with a tiger, black leather leggings, tan boots, and a black leather jacket.
“GIRL IT IS TOO HOT TO BE WEARING ALL THAT LEATHER!” I jokingly yelled at her.
“YOU’LL LOOK FAB THO!!!” she jokingly yelled back.
“FINE THEN! GOSH I HATE YOU!” I yelled at her, unable to hold back a smile.
“YOU COULD NEVER HATE ME I’M TOO FAB!” she yelled back, smiling as well.
“TRUE! Friends?” I asked/yelled at Jess.
“BES FRAANNDDSS!!!!” she yelled at me as we both hugged and giggled.
“What in the world……” Alicia amusingly asked as she stood in the doorway.
We all laughed again for a while until I asked if they could leave so I can get dressed.
