Chapter 18: Georgia
“Wait, what?” Leo said, looking at me. “I thought that he was a- he killed- what?” He stuttered.“Dad!” I shouted, ignoring Leo completely. “Jamie!”
“I don’t understand,” Leo said, blinking slowly.
“Georgie!” My father said, running towards me.
“Don’t worry, I don’t know what’s happening either,” I heard Jamie mutter to Leo.
“I missed you!” I said, continuing to hug my father.
“What the heck!” Leo said, walking up behind me. He pulled me out of my father’s loving arms.
“What are you doing?” I shouted, almost getting angry.
“He killed your mom!” Leo yelled at me.
“Wait, I can explain-” My father started.
“I know,” I said quietly, cutting him off.
“You know what happened? I don’t know what happened,” Leo cut in.
“Dad? Can I tell the story? Please!” Jamie pleaded.
“Hey, before you tell the story you have to give me a hug, young man,” I told Jamie.
“Okay,” Jamie said, sounding annoyed. I know that he wasn’t actually annoyed though, because I heard a sniffle when he stuck his head into my chest and wrapped his arms around me.
After a couple of seconds, my father joined in. I know that Leo must have felt awkward just standing there watching us all hug.
“Okay, I’m going to tell the story now,” Jamie said, letting go of me.
“It’s not much of a story,” I interrupted. “More like an explanation.”
“Whatever,” Leo said anxiously, “get to the point.”
“So basically dad was being mind controlled by the clubs. He just snapped back into reality when that noise was played. I know it was you who played it by the way. Dad explained everything to me. At first I didn’t want to trust him. I was terrified about what would happen to me, because of what happened to mom, of course,” Jamie explained.
“You know I’m sorry, right sweetie?” My father said, stepping forward.
“Yes. It wasn’t your fault,” I said, reassuring him that he did nothing wrong.
“Hey, I know that this is a heartfelt moment and all, but we have to get moving again,” Leo jumped in.
“Yeah, okay,” I agreed.
After we had walked for a little while, my father pulled me aside, wanting to talk to me.
“What’s up?” I asked, softly.
“Who’s that boy?” He asked cluelessly.
“Oh, you mean Leo?” I responded. “Why did you call me over? You could’ve just asked him.”
“Well, I had a umm, I have a question for you,” He asked, stumbling over his words.
“Okay then, what is it?” I asked.
“Is he like your uhh, boyfriend or something?” He asked, sounding embarrassed.
“Yuck! No way!” I shouted, pushing his chest then walking back over to Jamie and Leo were standing.
“I was just curious,” My father said, trailing behind me. “It’s about time that you get a boyfriend. You’re like fourteen now or something,” My father continued.
“I’m sixteen!” I shouted.
“Sorry!” My father apologized.
“But are you sure that you don’t even have a little crush on him?” He whispered.
“Dad!” I yelled at him.
“Hey, how about we make a deal?” My father proposed.
“Okay,” I said cautiously.
“You kiss him one time to see if you like him or not. If you do it and you like it, boom you have a boyfriend. If you don’t then you don’t have to do anything else,” My father shared his idea.
“No way!” I shouted. I did not like that idea.
“Please. I am your dad. As a coming home gift?” My father tried to compromise.
“Fine,” I said, giving in to my father. “And just to be clear, I’m not going to enjoy this.”
“When are you going to do it?” My father asked, in a way that made it seem as if he had just accomplished something major.
“When we get some alone time maybe,” I said, acting like it was obvious.
“Whatcha talking about?” Leo asked as he walked up behind us.
“Nothing,” I said, embarrassed.
“Umm, sorry if I interrupted something. I can leave if you need me to,” Leo offered.
“No, you didn’t interrupt anything,” I said urgently and awkwardly.
Thank goodness he couldn’t read my mind, but maybe I could read his.
What were they talking about?
I hope not me. That would really suck. I really hope that her dad doesn’t ruin any chance I have with her. I mean she doesn’t really have anyone else to choose from. Ever since Apollo died. That is what really worries me. What if she loves Apollo even after he’s gone. I never thought that I would actually have a crush on someone, but here I am standing here.
I don’t know why but I blushed, and I didn’t know I was blushing until Leo pointed it out.
“Hey, Georgia? Are you okay? Your face is kind of, uhh, red,” He said, putting his hand to my forehead. Most definitely checking my temperature.
“Maybe we should set up camp now,” Leo said, dropping his bag to the dirt ground. He helped my bag off too. We all rearranged our stuff so that we were comfortable, and soon enough Jamie and my father drifted to sleep. I knew that if I had to do it, it had to be now.
I stood up and walked over to where Leo was sleeping. I shook him awake. I thought about what I was about to do when his eyes opened. I decided to just do it.
I kissed him.
