Chapter 2
Then the bell rang, and it was time for the first lesson of the day. Maths.I've always hated Maths, because of the huge amount of partner work that we have to do. Because I don't really have any friends, nobody will work with me. So I have to spend the entire lesson sat on my own, hoping that nobody will notice me. It's awful, and it makes me feel terrible.
I walked to the Maths classroom, and I went inside. I sat down in my seat and opened my book.
"Okay, everyone, today we will be learning about prime numbers." the teacher told the class.
I sighed. This is another reason why I hate Maths. The work is really boring. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Mica. He looked bored too.
"The first thing I need you to do is find a partner." the teacher said.
Everyone else got up and ran over to their friends to ask if they could be partners, and I felt like crying. I would have to just sit there on my own for the whole lesson, as usual. Well, if nobody wants to work with me, then that's their problem. I work better on my own anyway.
"Hi." came a voice from behind me.
I didn't turn round. They probably aren't talking to me.
"Um. . .Victoria?" the voice said.
Maybe they were talking to me. I'm the only Victoria in my year, so they must actually be talking to me.
I turned round and saw the last person I was expecting to see. Mica.
"Do you want to be partners?" he asked quietly.
I didn't know what to say. Nobody in this school ever talks to me, and when they do, it's usually just to make fun of me. But Mica was talking to me normally, and he actually wanted to work with me.
I nodded, and he sat down in the seat next to me. The teacher handed out some worksheets with questions on, and Mica looked at the work with me. I didn't understand a lot of it.
"Why doesn't the teacher explain the work to us properly?" Mica asked.
I forced myself to talk to him, so he wouldn't hate me like everyone else.
"Because the teachers are stupid at this school. They never actually teach you anything." I answered.
"Well, that's just not right. Look at what the teacher's doing." Mica said.
I turned to look at the teacher, and she was on her laptop drinking Coca Cola.
"That's what all of the teachers are like here." I told Mica.
"Really? That's terrible." he said, sounding shocked.
"I know." I said, glad that someone actually agreed with me about that.
We carried on talking for the rest of the lesson, and we hardly did any work. By the end of the lesson, I was very proud of myself. I had actually talked to Mica.
Maybe Maths lessons won't be as bad as they were anymore.
