I believe in Fairytales
The room is burning green. Lilac holds back a scream of her own as she witnesses the situation. The floors, ceiling, and walls are all lit up with a green flame. The purple hedgehog looks down and sees she's standing on one of the burning parts of the floor and yelps—but, after a moment, she realizes that it doesn’t seem to be hurting her. The furniture—a bed, bin, a ton of other stuff—is floating around, also surrounded in flames. They bob in the air, spinning and dancing. She shys away from the objects, not wanting to be hit by flying IKEA products. In the middle of it all is Warren, whimpering. His hoodie is on the floor, and he’s sweating. Both eyes are flashing yellow and green, a small green flame floating upwards off of them. And if that isn’t enough, he’s on fire and floating above the floor.'Warren?' Lilac signs. This is scary. He’s scary. But he’s her friend! A part of her reasons. the critical part of her mind fires back. He’s dangerous. He’ll kill you. Suddenly his green flashing eyes flick towards Lilac, and the flames die just a little bit. He had to have some control. He unlocked the door for the young girl, didn’t he? And the flames… dipped a bit. Maybe she can calm him down by talking to him.
'Warren,' Lilac signs, her body stiff with fear. She takes a couple steps across his flaming room, towards him.
'Warren, I’m here,' She signs, a tear slipping down her face. She trys to will herself a few steps closer, but she's too fearful. 'Warren, please. Get control of yourself!' She manages to take another step closer. 'Warren, please,” She signs, tears now tracing lines down her face. She can see the water droplets fall and crash to the floor below, the liquid magnifying and reflecting the green lights dancing around the room. 'You’re scaring me.'
You’re scaring me.
“No,” Warren whispers. “Please don’t be scared.” Again. Again. It's happening again. His powers are a curse. He is dangerous. Her tearstained face focuses its way into his vision.
Lilac
“No, please, don’t be scared. Stay. Stay, please stay…” Warren trails off into inconsistent muttering. His mind is a mess. She creeps closer to him, and things slowly come back into focus. Putting a hand to his cheek, she carefully pulls Warren into a hug. She can feel his tears splatter on the blanket still wrapped around her shoulders as the rest of the room comes into existence. “Lilac...” He whimpers, wrapping his arms around her. She stiffens, but relaxes again, making soothing shushing sounds until he calms down. Slowly, the room loses the green glow. The fire winks out of existence, and the furniture is placed back on the ground. The whole thing happens without a sound. In fact, the only sound that could be heard from the beginning was Warren's muttering and screaming. Warren and Lilac sit on the floor, arms wrapped around each other as they slowly stop crying. Warren can feel her heartbeat. It’s racing. He scared her…He doesn't want to scare her…Slowly, as if she’s not sure if she should, Lilac reaches into her pocket and plays a song on the phone. Warren slowly drifts to sleep in her arms, the song soothing him and giving him the best sleep he’s had in weeks. Lilac felt awkward sharing her music but Warren looks like he needs it.
I believe in fairytales
Where knights in amour save the day
Rescuing princesses in tall towers
From dragons that they slay
I believe in fairytales
Where little pixies dance and sing
In little clusters of friendship groups
With no cruel words that sting
I believe in happy endings
Where you can find true love
And live life with excitement
An ending now has never heard of
I want to find my fairytale
Where I can find true love
To live life with excitement
My only wish from above
Lilac opens her eyes to see Warren asleep in her arms. Smiling, she rests her head on top of his and closes her eyes. She doesn't want to leave him on his own here. She doesn't want to say goodbye.
