Surprises

Mel went through school all day feeling happy she didn't quite know why just yet though. Mel walked into her third class, which is English. The teacher, Mr. Robert, walked to Mel and told her to pick a partner for an assignment coming up. "A partner? Really I barely know any one other than Ryker and Tamara." Mel thought to herself.
"Yo, Mel." Mel turned to look back and saw James. "Hey...James?" James laughed and said, "Yeah it's me! But I was thinking me and you could be partners because I mean you and my best friend have a thing going on." Mel's eyes got big, "There's nothing between us." James grinned and said, "Uh huh, sure."

Ryker was in math class with Jordan and Chesney. They were questioning Ryker about Mel. "Seriously guys there is nothing between us." Chesney looked at Jordan and said, "Sure. Oh, great. Look who's here." Ryker turned back and saw Paris walking towards their table. Ryker quickly turned back and kept talking. When Ryker was in the middle of solving a problem, then he felt fingers running through his hair. Ryker awkwardly sat there as it happened. Finally Paris bent down in front of him, "Hey Ryker how have you been today?" Ryker kept looking back and forth at Chesney and Jordan, as if asking for help. "Um, good." Paris smiled and said, "Well that's perfect." Ryker looked at her and said, "Yep and it gets better next class." Paris raised an eyebrow, "Why's that good-looking?" she asked as she messed with his hair. Ryker took her hand and put it down and said, "Because I'll see Mel." Paris lost he smile really quick. Ryker looked over and smiled but Paris got up and walked out of the room.

Mel walked into her forth class and saw Ryker waiting for her. "Well hey." Mel said to Ryker. "Hey I think Principal Sage wanted to see you." Mel had a curious thought. On Mel's way to the Principal's office, she had a million thoughts going through her head. Why did the Principal want her? Did Ryker like her? Did he know that she likes him? Was it obvious? Mel didn't know the answers to any of them.

Finally Mel arrived at his office and she walked in. "You need me?" Mel asked. "Yes. I have some news that I think you should know." Principal Sage said, "I think you better sit." Mel walked over to a chair and took a seat, Principal Sage did the same. "Mel, the police found your mom dead this morning on the side of the road."
