Boredom

As my family arrives at the races, they depart to the 30-50 section of the arena, leaving me alone at the 10-14 section. I stare longingly at the 15-29 section, wishing I could be part of them, laughing, smiling, talking, each with a certain sophisticated grace that I hope will come to me tomorrow. I sit in the last empty seat of the front row, hoping I might see my friend Jade who's already allowed in the 15-29 section. No luck. I sigh and pick up the tablet displaying the racers Citizenship Cards. Not the real ones of course, those would be FAR to valuable. The first racer's name pops up:

The Racers are sorted by most amount of wins, so this Jay guy is clearly the one to beat. Maybe when I'm 15, I'll might be a Racer. I've heard the training is pretty extensive, but wouldn't it feel wonderful, the wind flying through my hair, the rush of adrenaline for making a sharp turn. I look enviously at the intricate track. The next Racers name pops up after I give the next page command to the tablet.

So Arian must be twins with Jay! Wow, Gemini facing off in the races. I half hope Amber might beat the two of them as to not cause too much fighting between the twins, since Gemini are really only known to fight with each other over competitive conflicts. I wish that I had a twin, but somehow The City has managed to make it so only Gemini are twins.

Most people stop looking at the program after the first three names, but I've got nothing better to do just being 14. Why is tomorrow so far away? I read the rest of the program, and then read it again. The Races will start in a few minutes, so I might as well study the course. The Races are sort of like what I've learned in history about a sport called Track and Field from Has-Been History class. The Has-Beens are the people who came before The City, who seriously only believed zodiac signs were nonsense. What would it be like to be one of the Has-Beens? I couldn't even imagine not having my fate depend on the day I was born. It must have been weird not having a set future.

Off of that topic, The Races consist of not running on the ground, bu using 0-gravity shoes to race through an extreme obstacle course. The Racers are celebrities, and if you were lucky enough to be friends with one you were basically royalty. Life must have been really boring without the races. The races start in a little over a minute, I keep a mental countdown going just to distract myself from all of this pre-Race boredom.
