Chapter 13

“Aria?” Cameron said, snapping me out of my brief flashback. Aw, man, how cliché is this? “You good?” I nodded and started walking. “Wait, where are you going?” I stopped and looked at her.
“To the forest temple.” She shrugged.
“How do you know it’s that way?” I pointed to my nose.
“I’m a wolf, remember?” She nodded, and I continued on my way, only to be almost hit by a boy with black hair flying in front of me. “What just happened?” Seconds later, a Beowolf emerged from the trees, followed by another boy with a brown undercut and dark blue eyes who was holding a serrated sword. I armed Tooth and Claw and shot my dual daggers into the eyes of the Beowolf, killing it. The boy with the undercut leaned on his sword, breathing heavily, and waved.
“Thank you!” he yelled. I pulled my daggers back to Tooth and Claw, and after a second, he stood up. “Kiy?” We heard the clang of metal on metal and looked to see the boy with the black hair with brown roots and green eyes, leaning on a tree. He hand knocked two disc blades against each other. Undercut boy looked over at us. “Hey!” I did a two-finger salute.
“I’m Tyson,” he said. He pointed to ‘Kiy’. “The mute mess over there is Kiyoshi, and you are a wolf.” My eyes were wide at his sudden statement about me.
“Yeah, she is,” Cameron said, her voice laced with poison. “Is that a problem?” Tyson shook his head.
“No, I just . . . noticed,” he said. We heard a howl and spun to face the trees.
“I don’t need enhanced hearing to know that’s not good,” I said. Kiyoshi clapped and nodded toward the forest temple.
“Ar, found the temple before we were almost trampled-” She glared at the boys. “-so let’s go before we get eaten.” I started running, the other three following behind me. As we approached the temple, I saw two familiar heads of black and yellow hair.
“Yang!” I yelled. The blonde looked at me.
“Aria!” She tackled me in a hug. “Come on, we’ve gotta pick chess pieces.” I smiled. “Me and Blake got a cute little pony!” Me and Cameron walked up the stairs, and I picked up one of the black queen pieces.
“That one’s pretty,” Cameron said. I looked up at her, as she was a good inch taller than me.
“Wait . . ,” I said. “Did you call me Ar?” She narrowed her pink eyes.
“What if I did?” I narrowed my heterochromatic in turn.
“If you did, I’m gonna call you Cam from now on.” She shrugged.
“Blake, did you hear that?” asked Yang, who’d been trying to get Blake’s attention. Blake, however, was just staring at the sky. “What should we do?” We followed Blake’s gaze to see Ruby . . . falling from the sky.
“HEADS UP!!!!!” she yelled. Vomit-boy, who was flying through the sky, similar to how Kiyoshi had, ran into her, and they both flew into a tree. Blake looked at Yang.
“Did your sister just fall from the sky?” she asked. Yang struggled to speak.
“I-” She was cut off by a loud crash from the trees before a ginger with teal eyes rode in on the back of an Ursa.
“YEEEEEHAAAW!!!!!” she yelled. The Ursa crashed to the ground, and the girl rolled off of it. “Awwwww . . . it’s broken.” She looked at the dead Grimm as her long haired friend ran up and leaned on the Ursa, breathing heavily.
“Nora,” he started. “Please don’t ever do that again.” The girl - Nora - sprinted up to the temple and grabbed a Rook.
“I’m queen of the castle,” she sang. “I’m queen of the castle!” She jumped down and landed beside me, the Rook on her head.
“NORA!!!” the boy yelled. Nora stopped dancing.
“Coming, Ren!” She ran off, leaving us in awe.
“Did that girl just ride in on an Ursa?” Tyson asked. Kiyoshi nodded.
“I-” Yang started, but she was cut off again by a screech from the other side of the clearing. Suddenly, a red-headed girl ran in, closely followed by a Deathstalker. I raised my eyebrows in amusement
“Jaune!!!” the girl yelled. Ruby jumped out of a tree, and Yang yelled, “Ruby!!” Ruby ran over.
“Yang!” The sisters went to hug each other, but Nora jumped in between them.
“Nora!!” She almost knocked the sisters over, then moved out of the way. I looked back at the girl who was trying to evade the Deathstalker.
“Did that girl just run all the way here with a Deathstalker on her tail?” Cam asked. Yang exploded (quite like Ruby had yesterday), and her eyes glowed red.
“I can’t take it anymore!!” she yelled. “Can everyone just chill out for two seconds before something crazy happens again?!!” We waited two seconds, and Ruby tugged on her sister’s sleeve.
“Um, Yang?” she asked. She pointed up, and we saw Weiss Schnee, hanging off the talon of a Nevermore.
“How could you leave me?!?!” she yelled to Ruby.
“I said ‘jump’,” she muttered.
