Chapter 12
A little girl sprinted through the forests of Menagerie, her shoulder-length orange hair blowing behind her and her red and blue eyes darting around as she ran from her mother. As she turned a corner, she was caught in strong arms.“Steel, please,” a man’s voice said. Steel looked up at him: Ghira Belladonna. “You’re mother is worried sick.” The ten year old shook her head, her eyes watering.
“No, she’s not,” she said. “She’s mad at me.” Ghira kneeled down to look her in the eye and shook his head.
“Steel, your mother is only worried. She doesn’t want you to get hurt.” Steel opened her mouth to protest, but Ghira cut her off. “Just come back to the city. You don’t know your way around here.” Steel started to say something else but thought better of it and nodded.
“In a minute?” she asked. Ghira hesitated but nodded.
“I’ll leave a trail for you.” He walked back towards the city as Steel closed her eyes.
“Hi,” she heard after a few minutes. She spun around to see a little boy with red hair and bright blue eyes. There were two small, black bull horns poking out of his hair. “Are you lost?” Steel shook her head.
“My friend’s dad left a trail back to town,” she said. “Who are you?”
“My name’s Adam,” he said. “Adam Taurus.” She smiled.
“I’m Steel Blue,” she said. “How old are you?”
“Eleven. You?”
“Ten.”
“You shouldn’t be out here alone.”
“I know.” Adam smiled at her. Steel started to walk back towards town, Adam following close behind.
“Like I said, you shouldn’t be out here alone, so I’ll gladly accompany you back to town.” Steel smirked.
“Big words for a little bull.” He stuck his tongue out at her. “You’re just like my brother.”
I walked down the sidewalk, my footsteps heavy, as Adam and Blake ran to catch up.
“Come on, Steel!” Adam yelled. “Wait up!” I shook my head.
“Just catch up,” I replied. “I have to hurry.” I heard two pairs of heavy footsteps, and the two appeared next to me. “Ew, it’s an Adam!” He punched me in the shoulder.
“Why do you have to hurry again?” Blake asked. I sighed.
“It’s Jacob’s twelfth birthday!” I exclaimed. Adam placed his hand on my shoulder.
“Honey, I’m pretty sure that means it’s your birthday, too.” I slapped his arm and glared at him.
“I think I know my own birthday, smarta**,” I said. He feigned hurt.
“I’m hurt,” he said sadly. “You should know by now, I may be an a**, but I’m definitely not smart!” We bantered playfully as Blake sighed.
“You two are like an old married couple,” she said. “I’m dreading the day you actually are.” We stopped and stared at her.
“Ew!” we yelled.
“What?” she asked. “You two are gonna get married. Everybody knows it.” I shook my head.
“I wouldn’t marry that in a million years.” Adam smacked me on the back of the head.
“Consider me offended.”
“Consider me not caring.”
As I read an old book of mine, I heard a knock at the door. I opened it to reveal a member of the White Fang.
“High Leader Khan summons you,” she said. I nodded and followed. As the tall doors opened, Sienna Khan stood up and smiled.
“Steel,” she said. I kneeled in front of her.
“High Leader.”
“Stand,” she said. I did so. “Did Adam and Blake leave already?” I nodded.
“Yes, ma’am,” I replied. “They headed out this morning.” She smiled.
“Well, I now have a mission for you,” she said, “and you alone.” I was confused. “I’m sending you to Vale. You’re going undercover as a student at Beacon. We have some partners that need someone undercover.”
“Can’t they send one of their own?” She shook her head.
“They will later in the year, but they need someone there ready to receive them. You and Blake are the right age, but you’re better at undercover missions than she is.” I thought about it and looked back up at her.
“For the faunus, I’ll do anything.”
I do not own RWBY. I only own my characters.
